Default Spring shackles

The 87 samurai I purchased has some home-made spring shackles on it. I am a certified welder fabricator and want to make some stock size shackles. What is the stock distance hole to hole? Front and back if not the same. Thanks; Don.

I have this in my SJ413 archive. One of mine broke a side plate and I was going to make another but found some off a Suzuki Carry which where the same. I often wonder about these home made ones as the originals use a stepped bolt so the nut can be done up tight while keeping the correct distance between the side plates. Depending on where you are originals are cheap and not worth making your own (only my opinion).

You can use a steel sleeve in the center of the rubber bush to achieve the smae end result.

I see some of the aftermarket kits come with these sleeves, I assume the bushes have a larger diameter hole to allow for the sleeve but using the same diameter 12mm bolts. Maybe the side plates just have 10mm holes (10mm bolt) and the sleeve is 12mm.

Thanks for all the input. I ended up buying Stock shackles and the red neoprene aftermarket bushings to match. ( I hope ) I'll let you know how it comes out. On another note. I did re-bearing (rebuild ) both my tranny & transfer case. Had a couple of mishaps but fixed. Waiting for one in the mail. (Speedo gear) Ooops. But all is quiet now, no more wine. It's simple to do, now that I know what's where. TTYL. Don
