Default 1991 Samarai

Bought a Samarai on the west coast in Oregon. It is an off-roader with permanent 4 wheel drive. Is it welded at the gears or how do I get it back to 2 wheel capability?
Thanks,
Jani

without pulling it apart or looking closely at it, I don't think anybody could tell you how its been made permanent 4WD. I certainly cant see if its got welded gears from where i'm sitting.

Front AND rear?? Wow!

You gonna have to pull the 3rd member unless the previous owner can give you more info.

But regardless if it's welded or had a spool installed you will need to source new spider gears (and maybe side gears). I've got new side gears, but no spiders. Those would be best sourced used from someplace like SamuraiSalvage.com

Note you could have a locker that is just not functioning correctly. If this is this case you may want to keep and rebuild it with one of these: Roadless Gear. Locker Repair Kit
