Default How Different/Alike are the Jimny & Samurai

Are these two vehicles similar in any ways like parts swaps, etc.? Or are they completely different vehicles?

I'm looking at both and have a preference for the Jimny for the turbo, automatic, and later model years available in the states is attractive. The right hand drive is a put off but I could live with it.

My only concern is getting parts for the Jimny. If this wasn't a concern I'd definitely get the Jimny.

My reason for buying either of them is to use it as an RV tow vehicle.

TIA

The answer to your question will depend on the market the Jimny was built for and also the year - there are Jimnys that are virtually identical to the Samurai (which I believe is a North American market model name) and there are Jimnys that are completely different vehicles.

As far as I'm aware, no Samurais were ever turbocharged or had automatic transmissions from the factory.

Default confusing

I imported my 1988 turbo jimny RHD to the states and it has been a pain in the ass finding parts and finding out what parts are the same. I have even contacted Suzuki dealerships and they have no clue what samurai parts will fit the jimny. Just a stupid little thing like the wiper motor is totally different and not interchangeable.

This is the only site that I know of that may recognise your VIN numbers and give the part numbers. The parts diagrams do show the small cc turbo charged engines. Please let us know if you have any success.

Thanks for the replies folks. I think I'm going to have to scrap the Jimny idea. Mainly because I want an RV tow vehicle and it looks like it really isn't one. Given that problem and the parts issues I think I'm going back to Samurai or Tracker.

Thanks folks!!

One thing I did find out of interest. I looked at a 1992 in VA and the dealer has to inspect them before releasing them and they have to fail it on inspection because the headlight covers do not have a DOT stamp in the glass. Oh Boy!!
