Default Common oil leak?

Every Samurai I've looked at has a tranny that is covered in oil. Tracking it back suggests it starts at the distributor housing. Is this a common issue?

Very common - there's an o-ring where the distributor slides in to the housing and it hardens with age and leaks.

Is it OK to ignore this leak as long as the oil level is kept in the correct range?

You could, but it makes a nasty mess, and it's a relatively easy, inexpensive repair.
