Default New project Samurai!

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I just got my hands on a 86 Samurai in decent condition from my dad. He rebuilt the carb and it runs relatively well and drives ok, but leaks some oil and could probably use a rebuild. Sometimes it wont start and is remedied by a few light taps on the starter. The only other things that don't work are the temp and fuel gauge (possibly bc the temp sender?).

My goal for this build is to make a daily driver that can handle the occasional trail, nothing extreme.

My current plan is to purchase a rebuilt 1.3 long block from petroworks. I was thinking of also doing the Harley carb swap or a Webber replacement. Aside from that I want to do some mild suspension upgrades like OME springs and new shocks.

This will be my first project car so any advice or wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Looks nice and looked after. Mine has rust in every panel and can no longer go on the road. But that's just British weather for you!
