Default 96 Tracker CV Joint Squeaky, opinion pls,

I've had this tracker (4WD) since new and it's had zero front end work. Lately it has developed a squeak on bumps and now when the wheels are turned at a stationary speed. I chased this squeak thru the tie-rod ends, the ball and a-arm joints, but nooo .
I poked a hole in my outer V Joint bood (in excellent condition) and stuck in a spray tube and blasted it with WD-40. Wicked squeak instantly gone!! My quetion is whether the joint is bad or just out of lube. If it were not for the squeak it performs very smoothly. Can I use a grease gun needle adapter and fill it up with grease?
Thanks for the help.
