Default Basic help required for 1986 Sierra JX 1.3

Hi,

I have just bought the above 4WD and need some really basic help!

I have no idea about 4WD's and need to know what position does what on the 4WD selector - 4H 4L??2L??

There are no markings or any indication apart from the green 4WD light on the dash, but that doesn't tell me high or low range...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Pommy

ok one is only 2wd 2H for the road and doin dounughts,4H is 4wd for off road use only 4L is only for off road use and is low geared for real steep or real sticky stuff dont use 4wd on the road as it will screw up your diffs or somethin

up left is 2wd, pull down into 4wd normal ratio gears, push up and right is neutral, up and right more and you,ll find 4wd low gearing ,if you have trouble getting it back out of 4wd into 2wd put the car in reverse for about a meter and it should go back in quite easy

Default Bad News for me...

Hi,

I tried the positions, you were spot on.

I tried to get it back to 2WD and it is stuck in neutral.

I have waggled it for 30 mins and it is stuck, tried the reverse thing you mentioned, nothing...so now it is by the roadside...

Any ideas?

Default Update...

Got it moving again with a screwdriver in the transfer case!

...now all I need is an inexpensive shifter sheet - phew!

Thanks,

Pommy
