Default SJ413 fuel vapourisation?

Hi guys! New here, hoped you might be able to help...

Have a modified 1987 Suzuki SJ413 (believe called Samurai or Sierra elsewhere?) 1.3 8valve
OHC with the stock carb replaced with a Weber twin choke (does this make sense?).

Unsure what type as done before I bought it - but appears to be similar to the one shown here, judging by casing...:

Have been experiencing a problem recently after the car has been standing for 1/2 year - was running perfectly in cold french winter for 5 months before that, but problem has developed after the standing period.

After running the car on motorway for about 20 miles at about 3500 rpm - the power drops off, eventually to the point where the engine basically dies...

Feels like someone slowly applying the handbrake. Overrun drops off noticeably faster too, often accompanied by a missfire-like lurch when the accelerator is released.

To begin with, applying more right foot will "make up" for the power loss, but then obviously you reach the floor, and the power keeps dying...

A friend says this sounds like fuel vapourisation (seems heat-related due to the 20-odd minute wait for it to start happening?) - and I was wondering whether any peeps had any experience of this happening, or have any other suggestions...

The fuel line runs v.close to the rocker cover, but this has never caused a problem before (inc a few 8-10 hour drives across Europe) - any suggestions where else to check..?

Well, just at a glance its hard to say what the problem is but I will say that fuel vaporization is fairly unlikely.

The reason is gasoline has about a 90% distillation near the 300F mark.

Or in other words the gasoline will not even begin to break down in the lines simply because of a slight change in atmosphere - its just not that hot and even if it was now it would have been before.

I'm guessing its something much simplier like the fuel has gone off or the carb's autochoke is closing down for some reason

We have stripped down & rebuilt the carb, and it seems to be running better - but will find out tomorrow when I travel 3 hours to Newbury!
