Default jimny dipstick

Just picked up replacement dipstick for 2002 1.3 Jimny from scrapyard. Not convinced its the same as one still in the tube when the plastic handle snapped off. 2 queries:
1. cannot retrieve old dipstick so is it ok to leave in tube - the replacement does go down the tube ok
2. do you know measurement from top edge of tube to max and min mark on dipstick?

Your old section of dipstick SHOULD remain harmless as long as the new stick inserts OK.

For a level reference I would drain and refill to the total oil charge recommended for your engine per the Service or Owner's Manual, then mark the stick as that being the "Full" level. Maybe add another mark one inch below that mark as the "add" level.

You can usually remove the tube so you ought to be able to remove the old dipstick. I assume this is an M13A engine? its a common fault. If the replacement dipstick is also from an M13A engined Jimny then it should be the same, other M series engines do have different dipsticks.
