I've just recently bought my first 4wd (Sierra, 1997) and am trying to learn more about my vehicle.

There is conflicting information on whether the hubs can be locked in while not in 4wd mode and whether 4wd should be used on paved roads. So my questions are:

1) Is it ok to keep the hubs locked in while in 2WD?

2) Can 4wd be used on paved (no-slip) roads?

3) What type of diffs are fitted?

4) Does the car have a central diff?

Thank you in advance

I own an '88 Samurai. As a general rule you should not drive with the hubs locked in 2WD. But, I do drive up to 20mph with the hubs locked in 2WD when I am slowly cruising up the mountain to get to a section where I must engage the 4WD.
You should NEVER drive over 20mph with the hubs locked in 2WD. And, according to my vehicles manual, you should never drive in 4WD on dry or "wet only" roads.
I don't have answers to the other two questions. TAILWIND
