Question 08 reno extremely hard to shift from park also key is stuck

I have a 2008 reno. A while ago it started getting hard to shift out of park. Once it is out of park it shifts fine. By now it is extremely hard to shift, hard I mean you have to force it to move and it makes an awful grind noise. Also we now can not get the key to turn past the accessory spot unless we unhook the battery. This means either leaving the keys in the car or undoing the battery taking the keys out and hooking the battery up again every time I park. Any ideas? I really don't have the money to get it looked at or else it wouldn't have been like this so long. Thank in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

Give this a try:

You should also verify your brake light switch is working properly, as it gives the signal to release the shift lock solenoid.
