Default Box under air filter housing?

I am not even sure how to word this but here goes...my husband hit and deer and ran over it in out '05 Forenza. It tore off a black box that connects to the air filter housing and I'm not sure what the name of the box is. The car is running fine without it but I would still like to know what it is any what purpose is serves. Any help??

Thanks!

hi welcome to the forum!! if its the box that sits behind the bumper its probably the lower intake box. probably number 10 in the diagram in the link below
2005 SUZUKI FORENZA Parts - Suzuki Car Parts Catalog Online Store
it pulls cold air in from the front of the car and serves to quiet down noise from the engine bay some. i would check and make sure that the upper air box is intact. if the filter is out of place or damaged you risk pulling debris into the motor. you also might notice a decline in performance because the motor is now pulling in hot air from the engine bay instead of the colder outside air but the difference might not be noticeable at all. any other questions just ask!

I believe the box also keeps you from sucking up water, if your somewhat submerged, but don't quote me on this...
