Default anybody know a thing or two about rims?

i would like to buy some rims for my blue suzuki forenza 06 but i'm not sure what i'm posed to be looking for. i'm not looking to spend and arm and a leg but anything is prolly better then what they already come with. i'll do 18 or 19 inch if the price is right but 17 would be just fine for me. even 15 if they looked good and better than what i have. i bought the car used so i'm guessing they are the factory rims but it just doesn't have that umph to it haha. but i herd when you buy rims you have to buy different rims for front wheel drive than you would rear wheel drive? not sure if that's true and i guess i would have to go to the manufactuer website to get the lug nut placement or what ever? all help is welcomed thankx.

There isn't really a difference between FWD and RWD wheels other than the fact that generally FWD cars have a higher offset. When buying wheels, offset is the most important ignored factor. If the wheels sit to far in or out of the fenders it looks like crap in my opinion.

Thats another question i have had on these that i forgot to ask. On rims for 2006 reno/forenza what would be the best offset to go with? ive seen i think on the ones im looking at is like a 45mm or 55 mm offset. what is the stock offset?

The width of the wheel changes what the best fitting offset will be. Also do you ever think you'll buy a big brake kit or lower your car more than 1.6" (only option is coil-overs at that point which cost much more than springs)?

Those two factory play a role in offset. I push my wheels out a little more if the car is lowered and not slammed because when it's just lowered they can come out furthur and but still look like they'd fit up in the fenders. We're talking mm though.

the stock offset for those cars is 45mm if you havent lowerd it or anything then go alittle higer (theyll look better) but if you want rims that arent to much try Auto Body Kits Car Parts Accessories Spoilers and Police Headlights they have some good deals and other stuff that may help you in the right direction they also have a rim chart that shows you how things would look before you buy them *including offsets* so check it out maybe youll find that you dont want stock bt something with a little zip to it

Sorry but that website sucks, only 25 wheel packages and nothing under 18", half the packages don't even fit our car and they're all bling. Some of the wheels don't even list offset, and of course none of them list weight.

Basic info you need on your wheel choice...

1. Wheel Diameter = 18" or less, 17" best... keep in mind smaller wheels will offer better acceleration and braking (because they are typically lighter)

2. Offset = Factory offset is 45mm. More than 45mm and the wheels will be pushed towards the outside... this can lead to rubbing. Smaller and the suspension parts can bind when they collide with the wheel. Don't go more than 10mm in either direction unless you can be CERTAIN you will retain suspension motion and steering

3. Wheel width = Keep in mind the offset on your wheels. If you get 9" wide rims with a higher offset, you'll cut the tire on the fender... so you have to find a delicate balance. Most 17" wheels will be around 7" wide. That's fine.


A few points on advanced selection...

A higher offset means advanced tire feedback... the forces on the suspension are higher. Bumpsteer will be greater (the wheel jerking when you hit a bump), but feel will be tighter. You can also effectively widen the stance of the car.

Wider tires may or may not help with suspension grip. A bigger contact patch doesn't change the grip level, only how the heat is dissipated. Going with a wider wheel in hopes of greater grip won't do much for you unless you have a tire compound that will maximize this heat reduction principle... for example, a 7" wide Azenis will out perform a 10" wide all-season on the same car.

Lighter wheels have numerous benefits, and a downfall or two. The pros... light unsprung mass (car will react faster to bumps and dips), light moment of inertia (wheels will accelerate faster, brake faster), lower polar moment of inertia (the car will turn quicker due to mass being removed from the extremities)... the cons... strength is always an issue. Damage is always an issue with lightweight wheels as they sometimes get dented or put out of round on heavy loading. Just beware that they are fragile...

Defantly appreciate the Info, And Kinky i POSSIBLY might get a 1.5" lower spring max if i do so sometime way down the road, but for now no i dont have in mind of a big break kit or lowering springs more than 1.6". Ive been looking around since i made the post about which rims im probaly going to get and i actualy found some that are even better looking to me. ICW Racing 007gm RB1 which are 16x7 and come in 2 offsets of +42 and +48. But other than that the info shown aud helps alot.

Between those two offsets in that width I'd go with the +42
