Default My Ride - '88 Suzuki Every Turbo (F5A)

Hi All,

I'm from Melbourne, Australia, thought I register on here to show off my new ride.

I purchase this car a couple of weeks ago, but I had my eye on this Van for a very very long time, a couple of years to be exact. As I knew the owner of this Van through a couple of Suzuki Car Club, mainly RedlineGTi.com - Home of the Suzuki Swift GTi (ssgti) & The Australian Mighty Boy Owners Network - Home), and everytime it was up for sale, it was bad timing for me and couldn't buy it.

This Van is a Jap import and I have been told that this Van was imported to Australia back in 2004, the Every never came out to Australia, but we did get the local delivered Carry, which had the F10A engine, but it was very plain looking (no bodykit, no rear seats I think?, front wheel drive)

I'm a newbie when it comes to the Every/Carry's, so I'm slowly getting the hang of things, but I have no problems with my other car, '93 Suzuki Swift Convertible (click here for more info).

Here are some specs of the Van (as far as I know)

Year: 1988
Model: Suzuki Every (Vin/Chassis #: DA71Vxxxxxx)
Engine: F5A Single Cam Turbo (11psi), Rear Wheel Drive, 5 Speed Manual
Colour: Green with Gold/Yellow pearl
Others: Big Sound System

I now mainly use this car for work and it is also (soon to be) my daily driver, the Van is not quick but it's very fun to drive. As I mentioned above I only had this car for almost 2 weeks now and since I have been busy with work. I havn't had a chance to clean and tidy it up yet, it had a few owners since it was first sold and it's sad to say as each new owner it passed through, the Van was neglected and wasn't been taking care of, but all of this is soon to change.

There is a few surface rust that has started to bubble under the paint in various parts of the car, I wont be able to match the paint and it will be very difficult to blend in the paint, so this Van will be stripped, all surface rust and any rust fixed/repaired and it's going in for a full respray in the same green, but instead of the gold/yellow pearl, it's going to be a purple pearl. The whole sound system will be taken apart and re-wired, at the moment there is wires all over the place!

The only issue I have with this Van is the front bar!, whoever installed the front mount intercooler has butchered the front bar! I'm not sure how hard or if it's possible to fix that front bar, I will be going with a much smaller cooler, as at the moment boost kicks in at about 4000rpm, way too much turbo lag. The smaller cooler will be tucked neatly away. I don't like my chances in finding another front bar like this in Australia so overseas is my next resort.

Question, how rare are these car's over there? meaning the one with the bodykit? I am on a lookout for a replacement front bar, if anyone can help me get one and organise it to get shipped to Australia, there services will be rewarded

Photos attached was borrowed from the owner of the Van when he had it, the Van looks pretty much the same as it was back then.

Enjoy.

Hi DE51V2nd a.k.a Kevin Fancy meeting you here.

Thanks for your comments people

Just an quick update, well out of pure luck, a friend of mine on a forum here in Australia, managed to track down a original front bar for the DA51/DB51/DA71/DB71, etc.. Only problem was that is was on Yahoo Auctions in Japan, and as you may know, anyone outside of Japan are not allowed to bid unless you have someone who lives in Japan or have an agent who can bid on your behalf.

To keep the long story short, I spoke to a friend who knew someone and I managed to win the auction, it will be a couple of months till I get it as they usually fill up a full container first before they ship back to Australia via sea.

So this is another thing on my "To Do" list ticked off.

Hi j-six,

My friend called me about a couple weeks ago and told me that, the guy filled his latest container and forgot to my my bar in there!!!!!! It takes him a few months to fill it up and send it all at once.
But he did tell me that he has another container coming to Australia, and my bar is in that container, so will be any weeks now. It's taking a while but it's getting there

Yes the van is 5 speed, as I am aware, some came out with only 4 speed.

Check this link below.

U'S STATION ON THE NET

It has some heaps of info on the Every's, there is a few models missing but it has most.
The page is in Japanese, but if you have google toolbar installed on your browser, you can just right click anywhere on the page and navigate to Page Info -> Translate page to english, this will translate the page to english for you

Also thought I add some new pictures of the Van, since my first post, those pictures were from the previous owner.
I now have custom plates "CLOV3R" this is the business I work for (family business) the intercooler was sprayed black on the other side, so I turned it around to show the black side, trying to blend in with the rest of the car, police here in Australia loves anything shiny at the front of the car, specially intercoolers and they will pull you over, long story short the van will off the road until I get it all sorted out.
I upgraded the sound system, re wired everything and purchased some new gear;
-New all-in-one head unit with 7inch motorised flip put screen
-LCD rear vision mirror, this will be connected to a rear mount camera, it has 2 inputs, only the head unit is connected at the moment.
-New 15.3inch roof mount fold down LCD screen which is connected to my head unit.

Cheers
Tay

wow thanks so much mate!

we have a club here in the philippines - it's called club suzuki philippines (CSP), which caters to all suzuki models here, whether they come as imports or sold here by suzuki.

feel free to visit:
clubsuzukiph.tk =)

btw bro it looks more tamed than before esp the intercooler so it doesnt get the police's attention.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

Yes, I didn't realise one of the previous owner painted one side of the intercooler black, so I turned it around, it kinda blends with the black part of the head lights now, less attraction for the police.

Good news, I received my front bar today, YAY!....

However, there is a slight problem...

It does not fit! the front looks pretty much the same, only difference is the fog lights are a little smaller, but in the side view picture, as you can see, the end of the bar is a little longer! so it will not fit, unless I cut the ends off.
Not sure what to do, I waited long enough for it and it was quiet expensive getting it over here from Japan to Australia.

there is a possibility that the original front bumpers do not match the every van due to body warping over the years. though it is exactly the same the body of the car it may need some body repair. sir i do suggest you maintain the current bumper you have. anyway i think you do have some body repair shops over there they might give you a helping hand at that.

btw how much did it cost you? i'm looking for that type of bumper also!
