It's most likely a warning light for a catalyctic converter. CCs can get very hot and cause a fire if overheated.

Hi. My 1991 escudo has the same symbol just glimmering on and off. If it is saying my catalytic convertor is overheating (as suggested by post below yours) , what can I do to correct this problem?

IF it is the cat convertor, just take it to an exhaust shop and ask them to cut it out, and put a straight pipe inploace of it, then the carry should be better, and will go like a cut cat!

Thanks for that. I will look underneath and see if it glows!!! I have to lift up the muffler anyway so it doesnt catch a rock and then I'll be able to lift it up with the forklift. I presume they cant be 'cleaned out' ?

trying to clean them normally makes the converters worse, so its pointless in that regaurd, and way more expensive to replace it with another
