Air and Fuel mixture (screws) - how many turns? my engine is F10A.

guys,
ive set mine to 2 1/2 turns and RPM should be not more than 900RPM - you should be able to determine by listening on the motor if you dont have the tool.

kinda answering my own question

Sir pascal,

Would it increase the fuel consumption if I make it 3.5 turns?

Otherwise, if I make it only 2 turns, would my fuel consumption decrease?

The apparent "real" way to tune the carburator, as it is a fixed jet carby is to

1. once warm, increase the idle setting to slightly higher than idle
2. wind in the mixture screw ( lean the mixture ) untill it begins to stutter and jump around
3. then richen the mixture count how many turns it takes before the engine starts to "hunt" ,
4. divide the counted turns into 2 and then lean the mixture to that number

for example:

my car was leaned out and began to stutter and miss, i then richened the mixture by 5 turns before the engine started to hunt, since it took 5 turns out, i then need to wind the mixture 2.5 turns back in from it hunting

and, if you have a problem like i did, i could take the mixture screw right out, and it would still run ok.. the idle is too high, bring it down a bit,

if you want a more accurate mixture, bring the engine at its new setting, back to idle and repeat the process at idle speed.

this setting did me well on my f10a engine, i dunno what everyone else's would be like

I hope some body can help me on this.
My cab is an F6A 3 cylinder/12 valve, carbureted, rear wheel drive only, with no aircon
and no extra accesories.

My problem is this, I'm driving along ortigas extension for approximately 30min. The traffic was moderate and my speed was approx 20-30kph. I stopped for the pedestrian, then slowly moved 2-7meters. All of a sudden at idle, the engine starts to falter then kaput its dead. Started again for 3 times but was successful.
Started to moved the truck slowly to a parking space (buti na lang madaling itulak tong ganitong sasakyan!), when I checked the engine, I immediately noticed dripping gasoline under the carb. I'm an ECE grad, so unfortunately I don't no any of these things. All I did was remove the hose from the air filter, and check for broken fuel lines or anything odd. But I didn't see anything strange. Luckily, a mechanic passed by us and knew what exactly to do.

First, he removed the fuel filter, then drained the fuel from there. Then he started the truck, it started ok but the idle was not smooth. He rev the engine hard (>3000rpm???) for about 5-10min, then he let the engine idle. PRESTO!!!
everything's OK!!! I asked the mechanic whats was wrong and what caused it, he told me that the carb was overflowing with gas and that it needs to be drained, as for the reason he cannot explain it to me.

Now my question is, can somebody tell me the root cause of it? Can it happen again? During sundays, we bring this cab to cavite via SLEX, if it would happen again,
lets say in SLEX, I doubt if there would be a mechanic walking around.

I've tried googling around, and found out that I should clean and/or overhaul the carb. I'd like to here your comments. By the way my current engine is a new one
( Surplus, sariwa pa daw galing japan! ) bought it for 15k php, and its been running for almost 6 months. I'm only using this truck 2-3 times a week, mainit kc eh walang aircon.

Your carb is overflowing. Possible causes:
- defective float
- defective needle
- float tab needs adjustment

Of the above, you need to open up your carb to check on these.

Default Yes! Float problem

This happened to me last time my carb overflowed.

Take out your float. Shake it- listen for liquid inside. If yes, the float is cracked. Needs to be COMPLETELY DRIED OUT in the sun and then soldered at the crack. Not an easy task since the air inside expands when heated and then contacts when cooling, sucking in air through the crack you just soldered. So you should use a soldering gun- not a torch. And freeze the float before you solder it.

Not sure if there is a leak? Put it in the freezer for 5 minutes. Air will contract inside the float. Take it out and dunk it into a glass of hot water. Air will expand and escape from the crack. If no air bubbles come out, the float is good.

That means your needle valve or seat is leaking or most likely the little adjustment tab on the float needs to be bent to close the needle valve sooner. Easy fix
