Question Alto gearbox fault

Anyone heard about an intermitent gearbox fault on the suzuki alto? Every so often when it is in 3rd gear it pops out, and sometimes there is a terrible crunching noise when this happens.
I am really disapointed as I have only had the car a few weeks and thought it was a really zappy car. It's back with the dealer at the moment, it happened when their mechanic drove it as well, but they are having problems finding out what is causing it.

The problem is internal to the transmission - possibly a bent selector fork, possibly a worn selector hub.

Thank you for your reply, I will put your suggestions to the mechanics as they seem stumped on how to fix it. It seems very strange to me that a new car could have a problem that the mechanics don't know how to fix.

I'd previously had a Kia Shuma for 8 years which never once gave me any problems, I really only picked the Alto because it came into my prize range. Beginning to wish I'd waited now until I could afford a Kia. Thanks again.
