Default Alto 2003 clutch noise/thud

Hi all,

Im looking for a bit of advice on my Suzuki Alto's clutch. The car has been in the family for 2 years with no problem and I have recently acquired it. The clutch pedal has started making a thudding noise (intermittently) near the end of the travel. This can be both heard and felt, when it happens the clutch pedal goes slightly slack, it is for about half an inch then it is fine again. it does not seem to be coming from the pedal its self or the return spring. It changes gears fine and does not make any funny noises. It happens intermittently whether sat in neutral, changing gears when driving etc, and happens when both pressing down and lifting the pedal, in the same position. I have had a mechanic say the noise appears to be coming from the bell housing and new clutch kit required but I am not too sure. WD40 seems sometimes to make a difference, sometimes not. The clutch is cable driven, and it has plenty of adjustment thread left so lots of wear still. Is there a common fault with these that anyone is aware of? The mileage is about 94K.

Many thanks

Chris

Clutch plate is binding on the gearbox splines more than likely, It may be ok for many fore miles, or it may stick one day and start slipping. I'd be saving for a new clutch and do it when it does fail.
