Default Vitara JLX SE Automatic Freewheel Hubs

While servicing this 1992 model Vitara JLX SE, I notice that the front propshaft is being driven by the front road wheels even though the automatic freewheel is activated. I assumed that the freewheel should allow the road wheels to turn without turning the drive shafts let alone the propshaft.
This car is hardly ever used in 4WD and the correct procedure, as far as I can tell, has been followed to activate freewheel i.e. the car was driven forward in 4WD, stopped, 2WD selected, driven in reverse for a few metres.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks, Mark

I always reverse in 2WD with mine so you could have a problem with your hub. Try turning the half shaft by hand it should turn freely in the reverse direction.
