  1. SE5F-A Manual 5 speed transmission repair

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
I appreciate your comment 2013GV. Looks like removing the transmission mount on the drivers side opens the whole area there for work. I'll need to pull the 5th gear off the shaft to access those screws. After the problem is fixed, I'll probably need to flush the transmission a few times somehow...

That's what this left case plate looks like and that's what should be making all the rubbing noise:

Been gathering some info on this. These threads talk about the plate screws backing off or breaking which makes the plate rub on the 5th gear. https://www.suzuki-forums.com/threads/gearbox-reliability.12339/ https://www.suzuki-forums.com/threads/transmission-noise.36370/ I think I narrowed this...

  5. 98 Esteem Dies at Idle When Warm

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
Hi. What I think you should do is check for vacuum leaks. Also, clean your throttle body butterfly to make sure it's all nice and clean and small amount of air as you idle gets in there w/o problems. Clean whatever little passages there are in that area where the throttle body butterfly is. I...
  6. Suzuki esteem belt idler and tensioner replacement

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
I have done belt kit installation on 1.6 Engine and didn't have to lift the engine. Just removed the passenger side engine support to get full access to the belt area. I think you just spring it back and remove it. It's been a while. Also, don't forget to change the water pump while you're in...

Hi. Mine is 27mm. You can always get a micrometer and mic it for precision.
  8. SE5F-A Manual 5 speed transmission repair

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
Hi everyone. I'm on my 3rd Esteem as of last month. This one had 5 speed manual SE5F-A transmission. The transmission is making a metallic rubbing and scraping noise when driving especially in 1, 2 and 3rd gears (replaced clutch kit - not the throwout bearing). I've read online it's something to...
  9. 1998 Esteem wagon 1.6 - P0743

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
I ended up changing the TCC solenoid. Problem of jerking and misfire was most likely not related. It was due to a bad camshaft position sensor. I ended up replacing ignition coils as well. Primary coil resistance was 65 and 70kOhm, while the new replacement coils were 46kOhm. That's weird...
  10. 1998 Esteem wagon 1.6 - P0743

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
Shop manual says TCC solenoid resistance should be 11 to 15 Ohms. Mine is 28 Ohms. It also doesn't click when I put power to it's terminal at the housing connector. I ordered a new TCC solenoid from Suzuki dealer (couldn't find it anywhere). I'll replace it and report back.

Thanks for the link Brit101. The car is having symptoms of a misfire. The RPMs drop repeatedly every now and then. Once they it was jerking so much the engine wouldn't stay on. I put the car into 3rd gear and limped back home... It seems that the solenoid must work most of the times and have...
  12. 1998 Esteem wagon 1.6 - P0743

Hi guys. My 1998 Suzuki Esteem Wagon 1.6 threw a code P0743 Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid Circuit Electrical Prior to this my issues were jerking tachometer needle like misfire. It would abruptly sag down then recover and it would do so intermittently. I didn't seem like it was issue...
  13. '98 Esteem G16B - some white smoke at cold start

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
I found a few videos on youtube on replacing valve stem seals without taking head out. The trick is to not drop valves inside combustion chamber when the spring is released. What people do is take some roap and feed it inside the combustion chamber through the spark plug opening, packing it...
  14. '98 Esteem G16B - some white smoke at cold start

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
Hey Jim. Thanks for the input bud! Maybe the video is off color, the smoke actually is more blue to me and as you can see it stops after the first 15 seconds or so or cold start running. No smoke when accelerating. I'm going off this video and some other ones like this on youtube...
  15. '98 Esteem G16B - some white smoke at cold start

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
Hi guys. This has been an on going issue with my car since i bought it, nothing recent. Basically when I cold start first thing in the morning, there's some white smoke coming from the tail pipe. A small cloud comes out then it goes away and looks clear. No coolant loss. Does not look blue...
  16. What kind of key for unbranded FOB?

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
I looked very carefully everywhere on the device and didn't see any FCC numbers. There's only PEI 3/4/01 and PEI 6 RELAY markings. Maybe PEI is the manufacturer, but it doesn't return anything on the web. I wonder if I should just try getting an older 1998 Suzuki Esteem Key FOB from ebay and try...

No, I live in Riverside, California. I am visiting family in Batesville next week. We're driving the Esteem from CA to AR. Cruise control is much appreciated on these trips! Been to Cabot. I lived in your neck of the woods for 6 years, so I know my way around;)
  18. Front suspension clunk when steering?

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
Why not jack car on stands so that front wheels are in air and just rock the crap out of the front suspension to maybe hear where the noise is coming from? I too have the clunk and i think that's what i'm going to do to find the cause. jcgss77 - i see you're in Searcy AR. I'm going to...
  19. abs light

    Suzuki Esteem & Baleno Forum
This is rather an old post, but wanted to add something useful for future reference. If your ABS light comes on, check for DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) that's coming from the ABS control module. Download shop manual pdf, open file Sy413_416_418_1.pdf and go to section 5B-17 and follow...
