  1. 1998 sidekick 1.6 cold start issues

Suzuki Jimny, Sierra & Samurai Forum
You double check timing after changing the belt? Could have jumped a tooth. Had a similar problem. Ended up being belt was off.
  2. Extra air needed to start when warm

Suzuki Jimny, Sierra & Samurai Forum
You're a smart dude! The calibration is off. Verified using the procedures on Fixkick's site. Appreciate the tip. Saved me gobs of time and headaches.
  3. Extra air needed to start when warm

Thanks. Good idea. I'll give it a check.
  4. Extra air needed to start when warm

Suzuki Jimny, Sierra & Samurai Forum
Anyone have any ideas what would cause a sidekick engine to need a little extra air (slight press down on throttle pedal - not WOT) to get it started once the engine is warmed up? It starts just fine when cold. Idles just fine too. No fault codes. Don't know if this is normal or not. It's a...
  5. Has anyone bought a a Calmini 16v header lately?

    Sidekick/Escudo/Vitara/ Geo/X-90 &Tracker(’89-’98)
I was actually having the EXACT same problem with the Calmini header I bought. My EGR system was all out of whack. I kept getting a code 51 for EGR and I could hear valve tapping noise. Took me a while to realize it but once I found that little slit about the flange where it meets the head, I...

UPDATE: Found two things causing my EGR fault code. #1: The header gasket did not have a cut out to allow the exhaust to flow from the #4 cylinder to the EGR port. Modified gasket (cut a slot with scissors) and reinstalled header. #2: Noticed a small slit above the header flange where...
  7. 16v 1.6 Conversion Torture

UPDATE: So I changed the fuel pressure regulator. Idle stalling problem - SOLVED. Also, while under the vehicle looking for the wrench I dropped, I noticed out of the corner of my eye the clutch cable was bent. It has a flat spot in it. Like it is either stretched and/or was compressed...
  8. 16v 1.6 Conversion Torture

Suzuki Jimny, Sierra & Samurai Forum
No, I haven't. I tried to get a pressure gauge. Advance says they don't have any. Guess people have torn them up so they stopped letting the out. Was going to buy one at harbor freight. But for $50 bucks, figure I'll just go ahead and get a fuel pump instead. Everything I read about the...
  9. 16v 1.6 Conversion Torture

Suzuki Jimny, Sierra & Samurai Forum
So I just got the transmission back in with the new clutch. Its shifting again so that problem seems to be resolved. But I'm back to the stalling at idle after warm up. I think when it tries to go to closed loop it just dumps. I changed the EGR valve. Not a dang difference. I have a...
  10. 16v 1.6 Conversion Torture

Any thoughts on which pump would be the right one to use? Lots of discussions on them out there but I already went that route and that's how I ended up with a F-150 pump. I thought that was the way to go. I may have been very wrong in that assumption.

I believe you are correct about the fuel pump. It's from a 1989 F-150 I did some more research and it appears he pump is a 60 psi. I may have too much fuel. Guess I'll be digging into it more once the clutch gets back in and I get it running again. Thanks a ton. If it turns out to be a fuel...

Good info on the clutch. Guess I'm overthinking it. Making my head hurt. I probably overtightened it and created he problem. I've done SBC swaps in the past. But you are spot on with the EFI thing. This is my first one and it has been very frustrating. The harness and everything was a...

That's some good info. You may be on to something. I used that fuel pump based on what I've read here in the forums. Everyone was saying it is a direct match for a sidekick based on the 40-45 psi pressure. I plan to check the pressure as soon as I get a gauge. But I ran into a completely new...
  14. 16v 1.6 Conversion Torture

Suzuki Jimny, Sierra & Samurai Forum
I'm not sure yet. I have to get a fuel pressure tester. Thought has crossed my mind that my fuel pressure might be wrong. But it runs just fine except for idle. So I haven't gone down that path yet.
  15. 16v 1.6 Conversion Torture

Suzuki Jimny, Sierra & Samurai Forum
Somebody. Anybody. Please help! I did a 1995 Suzuki Sidekick, 16v 1.6L engine conversion into a 1988.5 Samurai. I've had nothing but a house of horrors ever since. This has been the worst experience of my life with this rig. Wishing I stayed with the 1.3 8v now.... Here's what has...
  16. CEL Code 34 on Samurai after 1.6, 16v conversion

Suzuki Jimny, Sierra & Samurai Forum
Turns out it was the MAF sensor. Plugged new one in. Started right up. No more CEL. Runs smooth as a watch now.
  17. CEL Code 34 on Samurai after 1.6, 16v conversion

Suzuki Jimny, Sierra & Samurai Forum
Hey ya'll - I just completed a conversion (95 16v sidekick into an 88.5 sammy) and I'm having a hard time getting it to run right. Problem I'm having is a check engine light with fault codes 34 & 23. Google says those are MAF and IAT. I checked the ground and power to the MAF. They are...
