  1. Clutch cable worries

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Update - replaced the cable with the pattern part - two bolts and 15 minutes work - then found that although the action was smooth the resistance was more and "felt" worse than the old one so I put the old one back on and now carry the new one and a wrench in the spare wheel compartment. Looking...
  2. Clutch cable worries

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Thanks for the link - I now have a "blue print" cable - looking good at £24.
  3. Clutch cable worries

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Where is the go-to place for spares for my Alto in the UK?
  4. Clutch cable worries

    Suzuki Alto Forum
The clutch cable on my 1999 sh410 993cc alto has started to exhibit signs of friction and makes a slight groaning noise on operating the pedal. The car has done 5000 miles from new so I would have expected it to last a bit longer - questions - is this common? Can it be repaired by lubrication...
  5. wobbly power take up

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Ever since I got my 1999 993cc Alto, the power take-up at pull-away has been well, wobbly. Most cars deliver power in a smooth way but this car seems to have a wobble at pull-away and a bit too much vibration at higher speeds. It's only done 5000 miles since new - are they all like this? Also...
  6. Handbrake woes

    Suzuki Alto Forum
My 1999 993cc Alto's handbrake is playing up. The car has done 5000 miles and the brakes are not worn. The handbrake most of the time comes right up to the top - six or seven clicks with a "catch" sometimes at about 4 clicks. Very occasionally the "catch" becomes firm at 4 clicks and the brake...
  7. Which oil grade for Suzuki Alto

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Don't flush! Many years ago I had a 1098cc MG Midget MK2 and flushed the engine with flushing oil - I drained it all out and refilled with new oil. My engine then "blew up" on the next long journey - the cause being that the residual flushing oil had turned the new oil to a water-like state...
  8. replacing front indicator bulb

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Ok - should be easy and it's not in the book - how do I replace the front nearside indicator bulb? The indicator unit is separate to the headlight unit and the top is secured by one screw. Removing this screw loosens the top but I cannot get the unit out to get at the back. Is there a trick...
  9. 2 spoke steering wheel

    Suzuki Alto Forum
***Update*** My tyres were 19 years old and had done just 4000 miles - they were the original fitment in 1999 and were 145/70R13s - but I noticed that now the car is back in use the sidewalls started to crack up and they were as hard as stone - time for a change! 145/70R13 is an old fashioned...
  10. Alto Engine Warning Light on

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Engine warning light Guessing what's wrong can get expensive with this. The engine warning light illuminating could be due to a faulty EGR valve or throttle position sensor, or air temperature sensor - most likely it'll turn out to be the exhaust Lambda sensor. A code read should tell you...
  11. 2 spoke steering wheel

    Suzuki Alto Forum
How do you remove the centre cover / horn button on a 2 spoke wheel? The service manual simply says to disconnect the battery and "Pull it off forward" but mine stubbornly stays put. I have not tried to pull with loads of force as I don't want to break it. How's it done?:o
  12. Old spark plugs - what do you think?

    Suzuki Alto Forum
It's not the cost that is an issue as a set may set me back about £10, It's that my Alto is a true "time warp" vehicle that looks truly new though made in 1999. All of the parts still have their original manufacturing labels and the exhaust is still shiny steel - just like it left the factory...
  13. Old spark plugs - what do you think?

    Suzuki Alto Forum
I just checked the rocker arm clearences on my 1999 993cc engine and they were all perfect! The engine has done just 4000 miles in total and during the process I removed the spark plugs - they are NGK BPR5ES type - but I noticed that the manufactured date on them is M898 which translates to 1998...
  14. My rear washer - an epic journey.

    Suzuki Alto Forum
My 1999 Alto has 3900miles on the clock which means that it has spent years in a garage doing nothin'. As a result, the only fault with the car I couldn't fix was the rear washer - it was blocked. Applying 30-50psi of pressure down the pipe from the engine bay and back from the jet did nothing...
  15. Owner's Manual

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Thanks Darrell for the technical manuals - Has anyone got an owner's manual for my 1999 SH410-3 (Maruti)? Mine came without and also with only one key which I had to get cloned for a spare at £59(!). If there's a link I'll print one out - people sell second hand ones on eBay but they are, I...
  16. Valve clearences

    Suzuki Alto Forum
I did and on page 261 of manual 99500M70F00-01E.pdf I found the answer. 0.15mm intake and 0.17mm exhaust. Thanks.
  17. Valve clearences

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Could someone pls tell me what the valve clearances are for my 4-cylinder 993cc G10B engine? Thanks.
  18. New owner questions

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Simple! Thanks.....it's only by looking at the parts catalogue that I have realised just how simple my Alto is - everything appears to be stripped down to the minimum - like one silencer in the exhaust system - less to go wrong!
  19. New owner questions

    Suzuki Alto Forum
Thanks - I've found out that my car is a SH410-3 (Maruti) and this catalogue is just the thing.
