  1. p1408 trouble code, MAP sensor info

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
Thank you - now there's some information a guy can use. My vehicle is a 2001 Tracker LT and I've been using the Chevy FSM as well as a downloadable Suzuki manual which is linked in the top FAQ thread. Did not know there were others. My suzuki download shows that same diagram at page 6-1-114...
  2. p1408 trouble code, MAP sensor info

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
    Thank you anyway
  3. Timing chain replacement - pull the engine or no?

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
[I removed my comment b/c Max said I gave erroneous advice. Listen to these guys, sometimes you'll get some really good advice.]
  4. p1408 trouble code, MAP sensor info

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
Well I'm glad that's settled. I can take it from here.
  5. p1408 trouble code, MAP sensor info

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
No I don't have that. This is a hobby for me.
  6. p1408 trouble code, MAP sensor info

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
I'm no further along than when I started. I still don't know why you say it's an EGR repair and fordem says it isn't. And if it's not I still don't know which sensor (MDP? MAP?) relates to this p1408 code. Or if you're BOTH right and these are related problems. How can I test and validate if I...
  7. Timing chain replacement - pull the engine or no?

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
I just did this job with two vehicles - first with engine left in, and more recently with the engine out. I did not replace all the timing components in either repair; just the ones recommended by Suzuki in the timing chain TSB. (Don't have the link handy.) Like you, I bought running vehicles...
  8. p1408 trouble code, MAP sensor info

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
I'm sure the confusion is mine. Manifold absolute pressure or differential pressure? All greek to me really. I just clean parts or plug in new parts, voila. I'm just trying to figure out which parts to address. Thanks. EDIT: Is it not correct that a bad EGR valve will coke up my catalytic...
  9. p1408 trouble code, MAP sensor info

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
Philip, where did you get that? Thats where I started - possible EGR fault. Then as pointed out to me by fordem, the FSM at page 6-1-114 says error code p1408 is Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction - Wiring Diagram". In a different forum but on this topic fordem said, "Maybe a...
  10. New platform for Suzuki Forums???

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
I was FINALLY starting to understand the old one! I just saw the "we've renovated - take a tour" popup in the lower corner. Might just do that. Looks great.
  11. V6 H25a straight swap, questions as I go...

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
No breaks in the wiring, but I got a different code, just once, something relating to throttle position, didn't write it down, deleted both codes to start over. At that point yesterday I figured I'd try spraying the PCM connectors and the sensors on top of the intake with electrical contact...
  12. A/t throttle cable

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
I believe the corresponding kick down cable for Chevy Tracker 2001-2004, V6 H25a engine, is GM Part Number 91176207, "Cable, Automatic Transmission, Throttle Valve".. You might doublecheck that. It has the curved end like the suzuki cable. I've had both cables in my hand, suzuki and GM, and...
  13. V6 H25a straight swap, questions as I go...

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
P1408 is a MAP sensor related fault Thanks Philip. I don't unfortunately. I'm not sure I'd know how to use one if I did. Fordem, thanks, never saw those before. I found error code p1408 on page 6-1-114, "Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction - Wiring Diagram". I understand...
  14. V6 H25a straight swap, questions as I go...

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
p1408 MDP or MAP sensor I found a little more information on this trouble code. In 2016, "fordem" responded to questions on zukiworld whether a p1408 code indicates an EGR fault: "Maybe a P1408 is an EGR related code on some make of car out there, but on a Suzuki, it has a very specific...
  15. V6 H25a straight swap, questions as I go...

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
p1408 diagnostic trouble code I thought I was done. Not quite. Went on a shakedown cruise today and after about a half hour I pulled a p1408 trouble code. I thought it might be an erratic code which happens sometimes, so I cleared it and kept driving. Got it again about 20 miles later. Car...
  16. A/t throttle cable

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
Sorry I don't have the old cable any more so I cant measure the length. Believe me, your best bet is a fully operational junkyard cable. Cost me less than $20 USA, runs like new.
  17. change trans mount

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
Hey dogobat, just down the street! I have the same truck so I looked in my factory manual, but I couldn't find anything specific to the mount. I'm sure it's in here. In the section describing removal of the transmission, the manual does require dropping the cross member. 10 bolts as I recall...
  18. 4WD dash light flashing intermittently

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
Thanks to you both. I think I understand the test procedure. I'll check it out when the weather improves and report back.
  19. 4WD dash light flashing intermittently

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
Thanks Max, I guess I have some reading to do. Is there a "usual suspect"? Like, front diff repair for dummies? Like, did you forget to attach X? The only line I remember removing / reattaching is the air hose that attaches to the top of the differential.
  20. 4WD dash light flashing intermittently

    2G (1999-2005) Vitara & Grand Vitara
Fordem, thanks. The pump engages the front diff with positive air pressure, correct? I think I was corrected on this point recently. However I'm not clear on your instructions. If as you say I plug the pump (behind RF bumper) or I guess if I remove the hose entirely, and the shift lever is in...
