If I put some nice wider wheels to fill out the wheel wells and some nice fat rubber to give it a more aggressive stance, this car can still be a great looker. I'll try and post my own pic in the near future but search google images of 1994 Toyota Celica GT and the one I got looks like many of the ones in red color.

So I got my "toy" in the process, which may end up being my daily driver as the guy who sold it to me was a mechanic who just got a new car and unloaded this. As they say, one's junk is another one's treasure, I guess. I paid $1000 for it, and I also see another GV for around $1200, I may take a stab at the GV as my winter car but I can't go too crazy, because we'll probably need a new car again in a few months unless my wife enjoys the benefits of zero car payments for now.

But our 04 Suzuki seems happy to be the main car again, we took it for 2 hour drive the other day, no issues whatsoever (knock on wood) despite the extreme heat, and this "new" old Toyota I got still has ice cold AC to boot as well. Just amazed at the quality of some of these imports despite their age.
Happy New Year everyone! I figured I'd post my "toy"-ota, the two-door I added to my stable, had it for about three months now and just put almost 1,000 trouble-free miles on it. The most major work done so far was just the rear drum brakes, and I also did the front pads. Will need to treat the only problem spot above the rear passenger wheel well that has rust, otherwise, the surface rust underneath was treated in the fall before winter. 2013GV in this forum helped me fix the horn, but I also have to troubleshoot the windshield washer motor not working, though I proved the motor works by putting 12V directly to it, so troubleshooting it like the horn problem will need to be done again.

You're right Don, a two-door is a lot of fun to drive, even if it's an automatic, the Toyota 7AFE 1.8L engine has a lot of pep, though my Celica brothers prefer the 2.2L GT. I just got some sport alloy rims for it with wider tires (used set of 4 with tires with decent tread for $100!) but I'm leaving the 14-inch steelies with faux hubcaps for my winter tires for now, so still looks a little goofy but not bad pickup for a grand, huh?

I do miss having a Grand Vitara though, because when my XL7 was out of commission for a couple days I drove the family around in the Celica over the holidays and my poor grown kids were shoe-horned in the back seats, though I was having fun driving them around, lol. The GV is the more practical vehicle but I'm having a lot of fun with this one. If only I had a three-car garage...

i bet you will find another corroded wire or a bad ground, work the issue like you did with the horn.

Thanks bud, I'll get to it. This is such a fun car, I get stares at it and people younger than the car wonder what it is, while people old enough to remember it comment on the great shape that it's in, and even more surprised that I got it for a grand. Once I slap some fatter rims on it, it'll look even sportier. Ironically, it's the 4-door SUV like the Suzuki XL7 and GV that started the demise of the two-door sport coupe like this, I can see why, it's hard to squeeze passengers into the back and it's not really a practical passenger vehicle, but the coupe is slowly making a comeback. I'm still trying to devise a plan on how to acquire a GV while keeping this toy

I posted previously on this thread that I added a 94 Toyota Celica to my collection (not really a collection because I only have two cars, lol). But if I had to stick to only two cars, I would give up my Celica, which I've been working on for the past 9 months as a running restoration project, if I found a two-door GV in the US, and not the more recent one, I want one of these pictured below. Does anyone know where I can get one of these in the US?

I would give up my Celica before my XL7 unless my XL7 died first, but it's not showing any signs of slowing down, thankfully in most cases because I hate making car payments. My XL7 was the last new car I purchased from 0 miles 15 years ago (now has 267,000 miles and counting). But when it's eventually time to get something new once one of my cars crosses over to the salvage yard in the sky, I mentioned we would go for a Jeep Renegade but I heard bad reliability reports for it, so my wife and I are considering the Kia Kona, nice stylish little sport ute or crossover getting great reviews.
