greatspirit07 I'm having the same problem too with still a high idle only on startup/roughness and reduced acceleration after an engine coolant problem that has now (hopefully) been finally fixed. Mine is a 2008 Forenza w/almost 48k miles. The throttle bottle was cleaned out last month. I am going to clean out the IAC and see if that helps at all. If I get lots of gunk out, I will assume that was the case. I have to get the water pump and timing belt changed soon anyway since they are due so maybe that will cure it if cleaning the AIC doesn't help.

My idle start up issue happened after I had a coolant problem during a long trip (running the AC going fast down the turnpike for 2 hours) and it overheated on the way back. It was hot obviously, so it was leaking oil due to the seal being destroyed and the wires were getting melted causing misfires. Valve cover gasket was replaced along with wires and spark plugs and added coolant. It ran fine but noticed the high idle on startup. The check engine light came on again for another misfire, so I replaced the engine coil and haven't had a misfire yet.

HOWEVER, as soon as I replaced the ignition coil, the oil pressure light came on, because a few weeks prior I added 2 quarts of oil, which I shouldn't have done but the damn dipstick wasn't giving me a good reading plus oil leaked prior and I assume they didn't fill it. Got an oil change that same day since it was due anyway and that problem went away.

Anyway, the upper and lower radiator hoses blew a couple days ago (right when I got to work; thought the head gasket blew at first) and got replaced yesterday so no more engine overheating problems. The hoses blew probably because of the first and only time my car has overheated.

7-even hi. well hopefully someone else might have a better idea but im thinking it might be your IAC valve. its the idle control valve. it tends to get gummed up by blow by from the motor. heres a thread about it. also theres some info on how to go about cleaning the valve. you might want to give it a try it really doesnt cost anything to do and it might fix the issue.

Rough idle only on startup w/ Forenza

I have a 2006 Forenza. It is exhibiting the following symptoms:

1) Usually on startup, it idles rough for about 20 seconds. Then it runs fine after that, until it sits for a while. It's been doing this for about a month. It only happens if its been off for at least several hours. But sometimes it doesn't do this at all for days at a time. Then it starts doing it again. No engine warning lights come on at all.

2) The problem is getting progressively worse. Meaning that, although it is still intermittent (doesn't always happen), the idle is rougher and lasts longer. It started out only idling rough about 5 seconds. And doesn't need to sit as long in order for this to happen.

3) If I start moving while it's still idling rough, it kind of bogs down as I apply gas, but after the 20 seconds, it runs fine. It almost seems like it has excess oil or gas inside the engine that has to get worked out before it runs well.

I appreciate any feedback.
