caseyjones955 Please keep us updated. I will be very interested in seeing what can be done. I run a 16v and it needs all the help it can get. What have you done so far and what gains have you noticed? I would be delighted just to broaden the torque curve a little.

I normally run premium anyway as its pretty much the only fuel around here not poisoned with ethanol. So no loss there.

Very interested,

Rhinoman There are some gains to be had, mainly because the Sammy in stock form is tuned to run on low octane fuel, you get the most benefits from a reprogrammable ECU when . Outside the US later Sammy ECUs were fitted with EPROM ECUs which are easy to tune, US models have the programming embedded in the processor and must be fitted with a daughterboard to allow reflashing. I have, in my spare time, been developing a daughterboard for these ECUs and also for the Track/Kick but I haven't had any production PCBs made yet. The development board is much bigger than the production board will be.

caseyjones955 The Ebay version of a miracle chip, its like a an 8 cent resistor that doubles your horsepower and allows you to get UP TO 25mpg more!!! I have also seen the little electric turbo that fits in the intake tube and runs on 12v. Laughable at best but they must be selling to someone . The maricle black box that installs in moments and completely transforms your vehicle. Nope, no no no. Most of these spoof your computer into thinking your engine is cold, dumping more fuel into the engine. Bad. If on Ebay, NEVER NEVER buy ANYTHING from China or Hong Kong. Best keep it stateside.

Some vehicles can benefit from an honest ECU remapping (if the vehicle even has an ECU).

For some vehicles you can get an already remapped ECU, a chip that you install by dissassembly of the ECU (have used these a lot om BMW), a software/firmware file or handheld device that plugs into an OBDII port. In any event you must verify the seller has a good track record and knows what hes doing to your specific vehicle. Just as the cheap crap is on the market so aren't badly done expensive remaps.

Mostly for my older BMW vehicles I got only marginally more power, a little more responsiveness and maybe... maybe another 1 -2 mpg. Worthy improvements definitely but no miracle.

I have no idea when Samurais started using ECUs or if there is anything to gain by remapping them. My guess would be little/none but I have never tried it. I will be interested to hear about it tho if some one does know.
