Yes, there is another way, old school a wrench on a flat or on a lobe.
Has worked for decades.

keotie Backup wrench on cam?? I'm preventing rotation of pully with a punch and bar inserted thru the cam pulley---is there another way?? (thanks for the answer by the way)

I was going to suggest heating the bolt, it may have been installed with lock-tite which will loosen with heat- use sparingly.

A backup wrench on the cam and an impact wrench is how I would go about it.

The backup wrench - very important to hold the cam!

1.3 8v cam pully removal

I have an '88 1.3, I'm in the process of replacing timing belt cover, seals, water pump etc.
The issue I'm having is that I haven't been able to loosen/remove the retaining bolt for the cam timing pulley. Ive tapped a wrench and a 12" long rachet handle with a hammer as well as used my air impact to break it loose. So far, nothing. (Ive been easy on it with the impact, the last thing I want to do is break the blot or strip the head), I know its way tighter than it should be---my question is---has anyone seen this before and what about heating the bolt (would that be acceptable?)
