  1. Radiator burping

Max, Again you were right. After I found my slow leak in the radiator I ordered a replacement. I just got it installed and after close examination of my old one I found that most of the core tubes were really corroded and semi plugged. After the new rad was installed, refilled, and engine...

Good thought Max. But if the radiator was partially plugged I would not expect to get normal operating temperature once the radiator is full and flowing normally. I run with the temp gauge in the car at about half reading. Has been that way since I got the car about a year ago. But, maybe even...

That's what I thought also Bex. But as I'm watch the coolant down in the neck of the radiator, it's like when the thermostat fully opens the level of the coolant starts to rise rapidly and doesn't stop until it overflows. I turn off the car, the coolant settles down, I refill to the bottom of...

OK, Thanks Max I'll give that a try when the rad install is completed. Thanks for your input.

Thanks Max Are you than saying, that I should have the radiator cap ON after the refill of coolant, and that the recovery tank will handle the burping air and resulting overflow of coolant? My manual tells me to leave the cap OFF until after burping. Am I missing something?

Maybe I wasn't clear Max. I do have a recovery tank but I'm not talking about normal expansion etc. I'm taking about the refill and burping process. Without the radiator cap on doing the initial refill and burping process my coolant erupts out of the radiator neck when the thermostat opens...

While chasing a slow cooling system leak I've the the need to drain and refill my radiator three times (that another story). Each time following established guidelines. when my thermostat opens after getting hot enough and while watching the coolant with the radiator cap OFF I always get...
  8. Flat towing issue

It looks like my squeal has turned out to be the infamous belt slipping. Tightening my alternator belt has resulted in no squeal. It appears that my "only squeals after flat towing" was only coincidental to the root cause. Or, all bets will be off the next time I flat tow in June. But I've...
  9. Flat towing issue

    Sidekick/Escudo/Vitara/ Geo/X-90 &Tracker(’89-’98)
Turns out the reason for my squeal was not low battery voltage causing belt squeal at startup due to high alternator load to recharge. Testing indicated that my squeal occurs now at fully charged or 40% charged battery. It's looks more now like coincidental belt relaxation over the past few...

Max, I think you're on to something. I decided to fully charge my battery before I do my startup test. It turns out the battery was quite low. After fully charging I'll start cold and note if there is squeal or not. I'll than deplete the battery (lights on or ignition on), drop the battery...

During tow transfer case is in neutral and tranny is in second. The squeal exists for a few seconds no matter the clutch is in or out, or, the tranny in neutral or gear to drive away.

I can't start the car without the clutch disengaged because of the lockout. The noise is there with the clutch is disengaged at startup and also after the clutch is engaged in second gear to lube the tranny. And yes, I did stand outside with the hood up but could not pinpoint the squeal as it...

Yes I do have a power steering belt but no AC. I thought that might be the problem at first but can't figure out why it would squeal for a few seconds only after flat towing.

Glas1700' Do you get the same cold start belt squeal when you are not towing? I don't. When I'm around home I get no belt sounds whenever I start no matter the temperature (0 - 90deg).
