    Hey 'ack' I am a 19 year old kid trying to learn all about the Suzuki Samurai I bought a few months back. I blew a head gasket a couple months ago and am trying to learn all about the engine I have in it.
    I have an 88' with a 1.3 8 valve head on a 1.6 block. I am wondering which head gasket I should put on?
    I have both a 1.3 and a 1.6 to put on and I am unsure because it took a few hours to take apart I would rather not guess wrong and have to re take the engine apart.
    I have many more questions for you on top of all this if you have the time to answer I would really appreciate it.

    As far as I know, I have never heard of a G13 block being damaged by frozen coolant.

    This sort of thing would happen only if someone used 50% or greater water-diluted antifreeze or straight water as a coolant. Those people are commonly known as Idiots. Wait - that happened to me once!

    That said, the O-ring at the front of the coolant plenum where it fits into the back side of the water pump has been known to leak. Replacement O-rings can be found at most of the popular vendors sites. If you are careful and diligent, you can even find a generic replacement at the local auto parts store or even in the plumbing section of a well-stocked hardware store.

    Hoses will fail from old age - which kind of sounds like what happened in your situation. You can replace that hose with a length of matched-diameter hose available at most any auto parts store. OEM replacements may also be available at a higher price... Don't forget to replace the hose clamps while you are at it.

    Hey, you seem to know a great deal about these samurai's. I posted earlier and you had responded but I was just wondering one thing. How prone are the 1.3l engines to cracking heads or blocks? I found out a coolant line blew and spewed my coolant all over and I had to driver her home not even a 6th of a mile because it was -7 this morning however, everything appears to be looking good.
