Repairing spare tire cover?

The damage ( hit from behind in a -30 celcius snowstorm) is all on the bottom of the cover, both pieces ( inner and outer). I had a bolt locking the 2 pieces together and it basically shattered the bottom of both pieces. I'm thinking of repairing it with fiberglass...Will the fiberglass stick to these pieces? I don't know what these covers are made of. Anybody got some input on this? the combined price to replace these parts here in Canada is $800, and it's the wife's GV. It was a hit and run. Thanks for any info. m.breen

To save costs, you may be able to find a cover at a junk yard. I have gone to junk yards to look for parts with some success.

If you are able to order new spare tire covers from the U.S., the prices at Suzuki Parts | OEM Suzuki Parts | Genuine Suzuki Parts are:

Inner cover - All models 2011-12 - $272.52
Spare cover - All models 2011-12 - $427.97 (black, silver, white,...)

Inner cover - W/o base model 2006-10 - $272.52
Lower cover - W/base model 2006-10 - $209.06
Spare cover - W/o base model 2006-10 - $427.97 (black, silver, white,...)

I am not familiar with the Grand Vitara so I do not know why there is no lower cover for the 2011-12 models. I do notice that the price of the spare cover varies with its color. Metallic colors are more expensive. Of course, there are shipping charges as well.

I don't know if Southwest Suzuki ships to Canada but they are very friendly and will be glad to speak with you (800-256-7933).

If you are able to order from the U.S., do repay me the favor by letting me know if there are Suzuki Internet dealers in Canada. I notice that the Canadian dealers have parts for my 1989 Suzuki Sidekick that are discontinued in the U.S. Unfortunately, regular Canadian dealers are reluctant to ship parts. They want me to drive to their shop to pick them up.

Good luck!
