Default Terrible racket uphill on empty. Fuel pump or ....?

Our 2014 makes a terrible racket going up a steep hill on an empty tank.

Pedestrians actually stop and look.

But goes so much better on a full tank.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The daughter is in Uni.
It's perpetually empty.

I noticed this on one of the few occasions I could escape to the petrol station with it.

She messaged me a few hours later telling me how much better it sounds and drives with a full tank.

I do recall noticing it as well on the way back.

The pump relies on the fuel for cooling, quickest way to ruin a pump is to run fuel low..
