Default Removing the compressor relay

Hi I'm trying to remove my compressor relay from under the hood in order to test it. I see that there is a plastic clip that holds it in place. But when I move the plastic clip back to pull up on the relay I can't pull it out no matter how hard I pull. It's like something else is holding the relay in place. Maybe I'm missing something, is there a trick to pulling out the relay?

Thanks
Kev

Hi Kev, I had the same problem recently with the horn relay. Pulling back the clip was not enough, I had to use a pair a pliers to wiggle it out. Unusually tight. Hope that helps, but donīt overdo the squeezing!

Thanks for the reply Thrall. Yes they are in there tight. After pulling and pulling with the fingers I figured pliers would be my best choice with the limited space I had to pull. I tested both of the relays (compressor and condenser fan) because my A/C wasn't working. It turned out to be the condenser was leaking according to the Suzuki dealership. Suzuki wants $566 for a new condenser so now I'm trying to find a cheaper but close to the same quality as the OEM condenser route to go.

Thanks again for the reply.

own a 2001 GV-replaced the condenser last year for about $150 aftermarket bronze-check this link:Car Part Wholesale - Auto Parts and Accessories Catalog - search Google.

the original condenser is Aluminum, the replacement is bronze (from China , think) it works.
Pulled the condenser fan down, underneath-remove the front grill also.
good luck

Both A/C relays are under the hood in the fuse box by the the battery. Here's the procedure I used to test the relays.

Hi Hib,

This is the location for the 2003 Grand Vitara. Not sure if it's the same for the 1999 Grand Vitara. On my 03 Grand Vitara the box has a black cover and is located right in front of the battery. Sounds like we have a different design.

Good luck.
