Default Fuel Treatment for 2004 XL-7

Is anyone familiar with the use of fuel treatments? I have never used it before. Does it improve anything in your vehicle, or is it just a routine maintenance thing to help your fuel tank or gas consumption?
How often should it be used, and what brand is the best to use?

Thank you for any help!

no fuel treatment is needed unless you specifically have a fuel issue. Don't waste your $$

I would not consider some of the good ones a waste.

I have actually seen and performed before and after 4 and 5 gas analysis of engines doing fuel injector cleanings and it is amazing how much it can change. If you use a TIER 1 fuel you will need it less but even then you could benefit once in a while. Twice a year is usually more than adequate.

My favorite IS Redline SI-1 and no I have no affiliation with them at all but have seen it work as well as fuel injector cleaning. Within 1 PPM and .1% on all reading is close. It does work. It actually helps dissolve soft deposits in the filter as well making pumping easier and prolonging filter life. (Don't ask how I figured this out)

Other good ones include Amsoil PI and Techron Super Concentrate does OK.

Now do you need a bottle every fill up? HECK NO!!! But, twice a year is very good, with once a year probably sufficient. With Redline Oils product you'd probably not ever need a FI Cleaning. Just as an example back in school one of the guys had an 88 cutlass that was blowing 220 ppm HC and 8% CO and on and on, that was going to use the FI cleaner and as a test (my car was almost perfectly clean at 55,000 miles) and gave him a bottle of Redline SI-1 and put it in his tank for 3-4 days then rechecked his car and was down to 48 ppm HC and further dropped to 46 after FI service. Said it ran great after a couple of drives back and forth to school. It was no different after FI service.

Also, use it just before the oil change just to help keep the crud out of you oil.

ok.. Ill put it this way. In the 20 some years of driving FI equipped cars and many many (250k? miles) I have NEVER used a FI cleaner and have never had a fuel related issue.. Do they hurt? no.. Do they help? Only IF needed. Twice a year if not needed is a waste of a few dollers..
