Max,
my Suzuki is 4 cl. 2.0TD, diesel. The steering wheel is on the left hand side as I SIT in the vehicle, as in the states. It is a turbo. I am surprized it is manufactured by Renault, Suzuki just puts there name on it?

The vehicle looks the same as in the picture, however the steering wheel is on the opposite side. The GV is as they are in the states as far as which side the steering wheel is on. I hope this in understandable.

I hear ya', but does the ENGINE look identical?

Better yet, does your mechanic know if it's a Peugeot or Renault design engine? Even better yet...the ENGINE block (stamped) ID numbers would be the best thing to try and run this thing to ground, and assure correct parts applications (like pistons). It would seem to me that IF your mechanic knows that he needs a piston, then he has already determined (has?) the gaskets / software that he certainly needs to do this work, thus it's pedigree is already established. No?

mechanic has looked all over the motor, say's the 1.9L would be Renault, but also say's that is just his guess. My Suzuki is a 2.0.

Every engine design is different. Few ID #'s are clearly visible, some are dirt / grease caked over, some are buried. You need to squeeze your mechanic for more specifics I'm afraid. Even the pistons that he needs...they come in diff sizes depending on the cylinder bore (re-sized?!?) needs. Sorry, but I'm not gettin' a warm and fuzzy on your mechanics capabilities.

I understand Max, you have been helpful and obviously know what your talking about. My mechanic has cleaned literally every square inch of this motor 6-months ago. Washed clean with engine degreaser and then soap and water. Can't bore it out he say's because it is a diesel. I am in the Dominican Republic, here there are very little resources. I am lucky to have found this guy he has a degree in mechanical engineering and has helped in the past, very trustworthy and smart.
I have located a dealer in the states today who has run the VIN# and gave me a pert# for the piston kit, but also said he cannot order them for they are European. That I need to contact a European dealer. This is the latest news....just came in.
My mechanic also needs: Head gasket (5 holes), main bearing(s), crank pin bearings (big end), and a gasket kit (may come with piston kit?).
This is all I know at this point.

Based on your most recent post, your mechanic may have a plan after all! I assumed the worse earlier, I'm sorry. Also since he said that you can't "bore" out this engine, then the cylinders MAY be of the replaceable "liner" variety, which you can ask him.

Best of luck on your parts search, and give a replacement complete USED engine some thought if you come across one in your search. It may be comparable (price wise) to the man hours and parts cost of fixing the existing.

I remembered something that MAY help. During my phone conversation w/Del Caribe in Puerto Rico, I spoke with their mechanic (through an interpreter) about sourcing parts. He said that I'd have to go to St. Thomas for them. I asked if to a dealer, and the response was no, through an independent Auto Parts house there.

I didn't mention it earlier, as you still have the original problem of ID'ing the original manufacturer of the engine, and are lacking the specific engine model type and numbers, but I thought I'd throw this out there.

I guess a long shot attempt would be to take (or ship) the defective parts to an Auto Parts distributor and hope that he could ID match what you need.

If you could post some pics of the engine and parts needed, someone reading this thread may come up w/additional assisance too!

Thanks Max,
The motor is in the back of the car all disasembled, I have no way of rummaging through it, being the weekend my mechanic is probably at the beach....
I still have not gotten any further with locating the excact source of where this car was manufactured. The last piece of news was from a dealer in New England and he said the car came from Europe. The question now is where???
The mechanic said the block cannot be bored, however if I can find the same exact pistons from Suzuki (who has been of NO help thus far) he can replace the sleeves and/ or bore the sleeves out? This I am uncertain of, the details of how.
This was my mechanics reply after I sent him the photo you provided me with:

"Your motor is a single overhead cam 16 valve probably the earlier version, also the exhaust regeneration system looks different and could be a modification to stop the exhaust blowback from the motor which is what your car suffers from, the same thing stops the motor running. That car is a good look alike, but not the same motor, even the intercooler is different."

Anymore help Max, would be greatly appreciated.
