Default 4WD Operation

This is my first 4WD. I don't have a manual with the vehicle, but I remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't use the 4WD on anything but Ice/Snow. Why is this? You can't use on gravel or even dry pavement?

I'm just wondering why that is bad for a 4WD?

Any other comments about 4WD operation? How fast can you be driving and put it in 4-high? Highway speed too fast?

Any other things you've experienced and think I should know?

Thanks!

DO NOT RUN THE TRUCK ON PAVEMENT in 4WD!!!! The 4wd system in this truck is not AWD! Once 4WD is engaged, the hubs are locked and all 4 tires really want to spin at the same speed. Fine in snow, dirt or mud but too much traction will cause you financial distress! itook this from seandaly ,from another post.

100 km/h is the fastest, about 60mph..

(For engaging 4Hi)

I have been engaging 4wd every week or so to exersize the system. As long as you don't make tight turns it will not damage anything. You have to make a pretty tight turn and can feel the axle wind up.. no higher then 60 mph for engage speed.

Sweet, great tips! Thanks. It's all rainy today, so maybe I'll engage it today to exercise it a bit.

Default The dry pavement MYTH , poof

here is the attachment for all suzuki's up to 96.

running in 4wd ,means 4H, or 4L and hubs locked. ok?

there is no front to rear differental gears in these vehicles.
so running on dry concrete or asphalt is bad.

puts a huge stress on the chain in the transfer case, so much so
it locks the shift forks. ( dah, the op guide even says don't do it)

for those that say , i do it all the time and mine is fine.

well , I walk across Hollywood avenue yesterday drunk and blind and I was not hurt, so it must be safe, right?
do what you want, different strokes for.... but that facts are here.
look.
need acrobat to read it.

Sounds like 4WD needs to be babied all the time. So going by Zuks' official stand on 4WD operation, even having your tires unequal in pressure can wreck a transmission. What happens when I am driving this winter on snow and ice, and hit a dry patch while turning... boom, 2WD for life?
