Default 2003 Grand Vitara DLC Protocol

I am located in Australia and want to access stored trouble codes on my V6 Petrol Grand Vitara. The data link connector is an SAEJ1962 16 pin type, which the factory manual states conforms to the standard in configuration and pin connections, using the K line of ISO9141 (pin 7) to communicate with the ECM. I suspect that although the vehicle appears to be OBD2 compliant, it may actually use the 16 pin connector with an OBD1 General Motors ALDL protocol, as the Suzuki Scan tool is apparently a "Tech 2", which is in common use by Holden dealerships. Can someone please advise on what protocol the DLC uses as a call to the technical services section of Suzuki Australia indicates that they HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA!
