Default My engine is wierd... Whats up with it?

I have gotten so used to it by now but whenever I start my suv in the morning it revs up on its own and then slowly settles down into a normal engine mode. Is this just an automatic thing to warm the engine or is it a "transformer" trying to tell me something before it transforms into a robot and wreaks havoc in town? LOL

Obviously I liked the transformers movie

Also was wondering. I heard from a mechanic that if I put in a V8 into my suv I would actually get better mileage because the motor is made for a heavier body SUV and since it would be in a lighter bodied SUV than what it was made for it would not have to work as hard as the V6 it has in it now. I do know that the HEMI is an awesome engine and I wouldn't mind getting one but for the time being I will live with what I got for a couple years until I can afford any kind of upgrades on my SUV. But by that time I might just buy a Highbred Suzuki SUV

Heheh I kind of thought he was full of it but had to ask just in case.

Glad to know the revving is normal. I was a little concerned when I first bought my suv. Thanks

Mine revs up kinda high in the mornings too, but gets back down to about 900rpm in about a minute or two. These engines do run at a higher RPM than most V6 engines.
As for the V8...sure it can be done. You only need to get custom mounts, get rid of the wheel wells, cut and extend the frame in the engine compartment, and replace almost everything under the hood. While you're at it, you may want rear disc brakes and bigger discs in the front as well as a bigger master cylinder.
This would be a major pain, even more so if you wanted something like a HEMI or other fuel-injected V8, instead of a Chevy 350 carbuerated.
Believe me, I'd love a V8 in my GV too...But I dont think I could afford new tires each year (or the afore-mentioned required upgrades).

Yeah, it's a pretty substantial project. If you really want a bigger SUV with more power, I've heard good things about the Highlanders.

Oh no the Suzuki XL-7 I have now is big enough for me. Any bigger I wouldn't know what to do with it. Besides I was just concerned about the gas usage and mpg and hope to somehow gain more mpg in one way or another.

the fast-idle kicks in at start up. It settles down after a while. It is very quick during the summer months, but during the cold winter, it could take several minutes. I let me sit until the truck calms down to idle speed. Then, put it in gear and take off. Our 2007 does this, in fact, juct about every car and truck I have owned has done the same thing.

Regards,

Ivan, kc5yti

Tell your mechanic to screw up his HEMI
For more power, get a turbo!!!

And thats the warm up sequence for your engine. Fast warm up is essential for lower emissions.

If you want higher MPG, get a bike or reduce your car weight.

Default Engine revving when cold

Try replacing the air filter, adding fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank, and cleaning out the throttle body with carb and choke spray. It's normal to rev for a few seconds but it sounds like your air flow maybe a bit clogged or the valves could need cleaning.
Carb and choke spray costs less than 2 bucks. You just take off the air intake, rev the engine manually by opening the throttle, then spraying into the intake. You should get a nice ball of blue smoke coming out the tail pipe on the first few squirts - This means the crud is coming off the valves and burning.
Alternatively, if it's really cold where you leave, think about getting an engine heater block installed.
I also had problems starting (i.e. engine revving itself) on a cold day if 10W30 is in the engine instead of 5W30.
