2.5 v6 vs. 2.0 TD

Hi. I have a 2.5 V6 that does about 27 mpg. This may be good ,i dont really know but I drive a long way to work and it costs quite a lot. I am thinking of getting 2.0 TD and wondered if there really is much difference in the fuel consumption.

I also tow a horse trailer with it and assume the TD will be ok.

Also does anyone have any idea about the new tax rules that may affect 4 x 4's
