Default i was wondering how many people have had these problems or dont and how to fix it

I just bought a 04 suzuki verona with 41k miles on it 4 days ago. I bought it because it test drove great and it was very stylish looking. Idk why but the car jerks very violently when shifting gears. Also when I accelerate from a zero it starts out slow jerking very hard then it shoots off like a rocket. Yesterday THE CAR WAS STUCK IN 1ST GEAR... i was goin 30 and the rpms were at 4 or 5 thousand. ALSO whenever i turn the wheels in a turn it makes a an awful sound of something grinding or rubbing and i can feel as if something is grinding as well.
Id appreciate if you could leave me some feedback, im a college student and my parents spent all their money on this car and cant afford another one, so this one has to last me a while.

Verona, Check for the PCM updates. Check for low trans fluid. Common leak is
at the trans cooler line to cooler seals. As for turning problems check fluid level and for leaks.

Did it do the above things on the test drive, or did these symptoms develop right after you drove the car away from the place you bought it?
