how to i get to the transmission to put transmission fluid in and check the level if it has a dipstick

From under the car you need to pull the fill plug (8mm pipe plug socket) and check the level from there once warm. No dipstick.

Re tranny oil fill plug. Just checking under my 1.8/ Esteem. Can't find anything obvious as fill port. 8mm socket is quite small. nothing matches. Can u elaborate?

I did find plug/bolt on side just under where shift levers attach (faces rear). Accessible from top, fits 9/16 socket (14mm?). Seems logical place although a bit small. It started turning easy enough but is not loose enough to finger turn so am a bit worried that i may be removing some mechanical bolt with disastrous results. Thoughts?
