hi all specialy theshadowfl "cause u tried both brand",im new in this forum and this is my first post
i live in montreal and i was planing to buy a kia forte ,went to dealer tried the car and i love it
maybe in montreal we don't have a lot of snow but we have it 4 sure
last storme was almost 40cm and i've got trouble with my civic to go out of parking ...so i rethink again to buy a 4*4
now im comparing a hard comparison
...........................kia forte 2.0l......................suzuki sx4 2.0l
1.gas cons................27/37.............../...........22/30 "not true in reviews"
2.awd.......................-----.............../............yes
3.options...................winner............../............----- 2012 Suzuki SX4 vs. 2012 Kia Forte
Well, like with GM, Ford and Chrysler, Kia makes many different models and many different sub models.
The Forte is a sedan, with a 2.0L engine. Nothing at all like my Kia Soul with a 1.6L engine. So it's impossible for me to compare a Forte, 2WD, with a Suzuki SX4 with AWD. You might as well be trying to compare the SX4 to a Buick or Caddy. Eh?
Now for an accurate comparison, with the Kia Soul against the SX4, Crossover, AWD, here it is:
The 1.6L in my Soul is, of course, smaller than the 2.0L engine in the SX4, but it's also better, with Direct Fuel Injection and VVT. The six speed AT is also much smoother than the 4 speed AT in the SX4.
Overall, I get about 3 to 5 mpg better mileage.
With the big windows and high ground clearance, the Soul is nicer to travel in.
Overall, it's just more FUN to drive.
Happy New Year!

In snow it is really up to the driver and his tires. A fwd whatever with good winter rubber would be much better than a compatible AWD with summer rubber. AWD gets you going but does little extra to help you stop and turn.
Kia and Hyundai have had bad reputation when it comes to quotes mileage figures. Currently they are paying either sorento or sportage customers a fuel usage return for false claims.
The only current gen Kia I have used are the sorento the sportage and the k2700. The two SUVs are absolutely terrible, but the truck is dreamy and is on my wish list. The previous generation of both the sorento and sportage were much better. X2 on the sorento part. It was closer to an actual utility vehicle rather than the people carrier that it is now.
I would never recommend the sportage to anyone.

Or, test drive the Kia Soul with six speed AT. It's SWEET!
The little 1.6L engine is actually peppier than the SX4 and gives better gas mileage too.
And, changing the oil filter is 1000 times easier.
There it is, like a red nose on a wino! lol Not hidden in amongst the exhaust header.
The mpg numbers on the Kia window stickers have been changed to reflect the revised MPG numbers, so the new cars will not qualify for reimbursements.
Mine however does, because I bought it before the stickers were changed.
I've already gotten my first Debit Card and spent the money. There will be more coming later, and even more, as long as I own the car.
But only a good test drive will tell you anything about a car. No-one can make a decision for you, and reading reviews in magazines or on the internet is pointless. Just one ten minute test drive in my 2013 Kia Soul absolutely sold me on the car. A couple of hours later I drove it home, leaving my 2009 SX4, iAWD at the Kia dealer.
And the salesman was still shaking from that test drive.
Works for me!
Happy New Year!

Sadow, did you cut away your splash plate? Or is it two sections?
The Sportage and Sorento at work both have the filters in similar positions, same position on the sportage (same engine). Easy on a lift, hard on the ground unless you move the plate.
They aren't protected by the bumper like yours though. Have to watch out for rocks.

AWD has no bearing to how well a vehicle stops and turns. Also a FWD with good tires is not as good as an AWD with decent tires. No comparo. I would not recommend a Korean car at all. I have a freind who is Hyundai mechanic at a dealership and he has told me horror stores. Korean cars are not in the same category as Japanese cars..

Yes, I was stressing that tires are more important than the drivetrain and that folks think AWD is better in the snow but if it doesn't help you stop or turn how can one say that? That is the most important thing with a 3,000 lb mish mash of steel and plastic with any velocity.
Horror stories come from all manufacturers. Hyundai and Kia (shared platforms with nearly all their vehicles) have come up in the world these days due to their cost and styling, cheap and pretty.
I maintain 2 kias (2010 Sportage, 2011 Sorento), 1 Hyundai Tuscon (2004) and 1 First Generation (D22) Nissan Frontier (2007) and my own Escudo.
With all the vehicles the one that gives the most problem is the Frontier, it is worked like a truck so that is understandable, but it has the known KA24DE timing chain slap. No real maintenance freak outs yet.
Hell even my brother's Alfa 156 which is said to be abysmally unreliable is surviving here and doing well.
As much as I dislike the current Sportage I cannot call it unreliable yet (too early in the game). The old Sportages are running around fine too.

I lived in Montréal for soo long. Parking and driving is a pain, no sorry.... A PAIN when there is snow. Now that I have a SX4, I will NEVER go back to FWD car in Québec. It can't be compared. So for me it's simple, SX4 AWD all the way!!!!
