Fuel Tank Volume Remaining at Empty

Hi,

I recently bought a 2011 SX4 JLX (has 45L fuel tank) and was wondering what volume of fuel is in the tank when the needle hits empty on the fuel gauge. After I have a few more fuel-ups I'm sure I can figure it out, so far my best number is roughly 7L. Is there a specific volume of reserve for the model and trim or is the remaining volume dependant on the behaviour of each vehicles fuel gauge?

Thanks

What car? What country? Assuming you're not in the US since you're talking about liters. We don't do liters here in the US.

Fuel gauges are approximate and have been for the past 50 years at least. So drive your car, till the "Check Fuel" light comes on, then fill the tank and see how many gallons or liters of gas it takes to refill the tank. Then you will have your answer. A much better answer than anyone here can give you. Eh?

Looking back at my Gas Mileage Spreadsheet, it seems like the most gas I ever put in my tank on a FILL-UP, was just a scooch over ten gallons. That means that I did not stop and fill up as soon as I saw the Check Fuel light. That's not something I regularly do.

But it's important to know little details like What CAR? Because the sedan, TWD has a bigger gas tank than the iAWD hatchback. The rear differential on the AWD forces the gas tank to be a little bit smaller.

Thanks everyone, the numbers I'm seeing are close to mine so thats a good confirmation. TheShadowFL, I've got the hatchback and I'm in Canada where JLX is the trim level that comes standard with iAWD and the small fuel tank (45L, roughly 11.9 gal).

11.9, yup, that sounds familiar. That's actually a pretty small tank for a car that struggles to get an all-around 30mpg. But where would you put a 20 gallon tank on an SX4? It is after all, a SMALL car.

I do so many other things with my car, besides driving up and down the highway, that sometimes my average for a tank will drop below 20mpg.

So I hope with all this chatter, we've answered the original question. After all, that what this forum is all about.

Cheers Mate!
