My girlfriends 08 impreza outback sport gets the same mileage as my new SX4... 28mpg on a 60mile one way commute. I drove them back to back, since I went down to pick up my SX4 the other day which had only 20 miles on it. I'm expecting that number to increase slightly as it breaks in... I'll be pleased with a 28mpg avg, since my Frontier only got 17 on the same route!

I agree. With the piggy and UDP, mileage should significantly increase. synthetic oils seem to improve mileage as well.

Just to let you know, the new EPA ratings for the SX4 are out on Fuel Economy.

The SX4 sedan gets 23/33 in manual form, 25/32 with the CVT.
The SX4 crossover FWD gets 22/30 with manual, 23/30 with CVT.
The SX4 AWD gets 22/30 with the manual, 23/29 with CVT.

That being said, it must mean that all 2010 crossover AWD units will only
be available with the CVT, I sure hope this isn't the case for most
enthusiests have been going for AWD manual trans units in the past.

Since Suzuki has "a relationship" with Nissan, I wonder if these 2010
gearboxes 6-spd man & CVT automatic are Nissan spec units. CVT's
and 6-spds have been available in the latest Sentra since 2007.

i don't know about mpg, but for myself, my sx4 crossover does about 7.6-8L/100km on the highway at 120km/h and an average of 8.8 city/highway.

so from fast calculations, about 22 mpg average and 24 highway only at about 75 mph.

i must state the car is stock and i do have a heavy right foot(lead in me boots)

edit: i tried it at 65mph for a couple kms and my gauge tells me i do about 6.8 which comes to about 27 mpg

Your conversions are wrong. To get MPG (US) from l/100 km, you must divide 235 by your rating in l/100 km, and the same with the opposite.

So 7,6 l/100 Km on the highway is about 31 MPG and 8,8 l/100 km is a bit under 27 MPG. 6,8 l/100 km is 34,5 MPG. To get MPG in imperial gallons, multiply the MPG (US) by 1,2, so 31 MPG (US) on the highway becomes 37 MPG (imp) and etc...

So basically you get 31 MPG on the highway with a mix of 27 MPG, so you're very near to the EPA ratings.

I am getting a new 2010 JX AWD 6MT next month as soon as the boat docks. The new blue too (it's like the 2009 GV blue). Woohoo!

The fuel economy has improved all around. Now if only they'd make the gas tank bigger in the AWD models...

It would be possible to have a larger tank. They would have to have two fuel pumps and make the EVAP box somewhere else ehich shouldn't be a huge issue.

How tight is the space around the existing tank? They could possibly just increase all dimensions slightly and pick up quite a bit of extra capacity.

It used to be common for production race bikes to have their petrol tanks blown out by an air line to increase tank capacity.
