Default Driver's side airbag light

So, bought an '09 sx4 crossover w/touring pkg in late September. The only NEW car I have purchased since 1989, and I love this little beast. I've only had one problem...the airbag light for the driver's side started intermitantly coming on and going off, then decided it wanted to stay on all the time. Took it in and had to have a new seat cushion ordered and installed. Covered, of course, I'm just curious...anyone else run into this?

I do know that the airbag light stays on if the circuit is open for more than 4 seconds. It needs to be reset if that is the case.

This has been a tough issue for SX4's generally.

I've had the same car for about a month and the airbag light has come on 4 or 5 times. The dealer looked at it, but they couldn't do anything since the light wasn't on when they had it. Now I'm just waiting for it to come on again.

That is the way it started on mine. Then, one day, it came on and wouldn't go off. Took the dealer about one and a half hours to fix once the seat cushion came in. No problems since. Good luck.

hey guys,
just started having this problem...the airbag light is now staying on all the time.
my car has 40k miles on it - do you think this service will be covered by the powertrain warranty?
does anyone know the approximate cost of the repair?
i have worked on my cars in the past - is it a difficult job to replace the cushion/sensor that is malfunctioning?
thanks for your help.

Have the car scanned-if it has a B1318 code stored, there is a reflash for the seat ciushion-it must be done by the dealer as the apparatus is plugged directly into the seat and not done through the ALDL. The codes can then be cleared and you'll be on your way. You'll probably be charged no more than a half hour's worth of labor. A new seat cushoin, by contrast, costs around $2000 US.

one last question - while the airbag light is on, if an accident happened would the airbags deploy?
i would imagine that the airbags would not be disabled due to the airbag light being on?

The airbag system is disabled until the problem causing DTC is corrected and the codes are cleared.

I just had this done a few weeks ago. Seems to be fine now. It was a TSB they said. Had to do with the drivers side seat cushion they said. It was under warrenty at 29,000+ miles.
