Over the past few weeks, I noticed my sister's 2008 SX4 sedan having an extended crank & rough startup. I found this service bulletin: N-Q-RW-008, but I'm not sure if it only applies to U.S. SX4's. Has anyone in Canada had this TSB done? If so, what does it say on the work order?
My sister called a Suzuki service department to book an appointment & the guy on the phone was telling her that it's probably due to poor gas that she's using, which has me worried that the dealer doesn't know about the TSB.

So I took the '08 automatic SX4 into a local Toronto Suzuki dealer today to get this issue fixed. I explained to the service manager what the problem was & showed him a copy of the TSB which I found from the SX4forum website, to which he didn't like. I think it was because it was an American TSB # (which is different) & he didn't like the fact that I had this info on me. After some persuasion, he referenced my VIN # to which it did apply.
Not even 15 minutes later, the PCM update was done! He said Suzuki recently revised the update which is why it updated so quickly. We'll see if this solves the problem!
Here's what it says on my work order for those who haven't done it:
"Perform PCM Update Version 001/3398080JG"

yeah it's a simple ECM reflash, it takes 7 minutes to program (+ getting the car in and out, etc.)
All you had to do was to complain about long starts, your dealer should do the programming if the car is under warranty.
I just bought an 08 SX4 and I'll be testing this with it, I did not do the TSB yet, we'll see
Yeah I figured the update would be straight forward, but the service manager seemed reluctant to acknowledge the issue and was acting like it didn't exist, or apply to Canadian SX4's. I'm glad there's forums like these where I can useful info.

I can't tell why he would be redundant, maybe he was tight in his schedule? i dunno...
here we do the reflash on every car we can... customers usually don't complaint about it, but when you mention long starting they go "oh yeah mine does that sometimes"...

Well I was the only customer they had when I got there, which leads me to think that he just took offense to the fact that I did me research beforehand. Anyway, it's not a big deal, i'm just happy the problem was fixed.

It wasn't the Downtown Toronto dealer was it? I went in to test drive a SX4 and was increadibly put off by the sales manager - maybe there is a bigger problem at that dealership.
At any rate, the SX4 seemed interesting, though I doubt I would buy it from that dealership.

This was at Morningside Suzuki, where we bought the car from. The salesmen are very helpful and not pushy which we liked, however we didn't like the sales manager at all. Despite that, we needed the car & the price was very good.
My sister did a test drive at Hillcreat Suzuki and was very put off by the salesman, who insulted every car not made by Suzuki.
I would however highly recommend the car as the price can't be beat & the built quality is excellent.
