Default Mileage update

Forgot to mention: 2008 SX4 Touring Manual; had a safari cage on top for vacationing this past summer--agreed--puts a big dent in MPG. So the 26.3 MPG may get better in the next couple of weeks..I'll keep posted.

Talking SX4 Mileage

I have had my 2008 SX4 since 8/20/2008. The sticker said 24 mpg city/30mpg expressway. I use my car for work, a round trip of about 115 miles four days a week, and I am averaging 29.9 mpg.
The small gas tank does make me fill the car up more often than I'm used to, every week. However when I compare how much I spend monthly on gas to my old Buick, it's no contest! I am spending about 20% less on gas per month than I was spending this time last year, and that's with increased gas prices.
I think that the real trick, at least for me, is to always use the cruise control wherever possible.
All in all, I am very pleased that the salesperson sold me this car, as I was not looking specifically to by a new Suzuki:- I was going to buy a used car instead!

I own a 2008 awd touring. Sticker 21 city and highway 28. actual mpg 30 in the city and 28-36 on the hwy. miles on car 28,500, driving habits mostly hwy, I drive normal not fast or slow like grandma. There has only been 4 tanks where I have gotten below average due to mountain driving and windy conditions. What I dislike about this car is that mpg is greatly affected by wind, mountains ect. Not like my usual 6 cylinders where it stays the same no matter what, but having the awd option with mpg like this can't really complain.

***SX4 DOES NOT GET BAD GAS MILEAGE FOLKS!! --- PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU WANT TO INCREASE YOUR GAS MILEAGE!!!***

I have a 2007 SX4 FWD with a 5 speed manual and thought after the first few months that this car gets very poor gas mileage!! I was only getting 450 KMS (281 Miles) to a tank and though OMG, this car is bad on gas!! Then I noticed that handy real-time gas consuption gauge beside the clock and temperature gauge and said to myself Hmmmmm.........

I adjusted my driving style (I do have a bit of a lead foot and like to drive in excess of 120 KPH (75 MPH) on the highway) and decided to take on a more conservative driving style. Also, to all those who complain that this car gets bad mileage must take into consideration that the gas tank on this car is small (45L tank on the AWD and a 50L tank on the FWD).

Since I changed my driving style, I now always manage to get at least 600 Kilometers (375 miles) on a tank of gas. I usually average 7.5 L/100KM (31 MPG) combined city and highway driving. The trick is to observe all speed limits and dont exceed 100 KPH (60 MPH) on the highway. This car is a high revver - the 5 speed revs at 3000 RPM in 5th gear on the highway doing 100 KPH (60 MPH). You go any faster than that, and the SX4 just sucks fuel. Also, you have to be easy on the throttle when city driving - this car also sucks alot of gas if you are always doing jack-rabbit starts at every intersection. Just observe the real-time gas consuption meter on the dash and you'll notice that the heavier your foot is on the gas pedal, the more gas you burn - and that is with ANY car.
