Hey - I see you have found this site as well as the SX4 forum - I just want to strongly caution NOT to cut any wires. If you really want to try the resistor out just unplug the correct sensor and plug the ends of the resistor into the plug that went to the sensor. This will allow you to see what that thing does without voiding a warranty, emissions, causing future problems, etc... I do not have the wire color chart for this car yet but I have used these devices in the past on other cars. These resistors tell the computer a false signal in order to trick it into sending more fuel, more timing, etc... by making it think it is in open loop mode usually. Typically this causes poor fuel economy and sometimes can damage expensive emission control items. The one time I have used something like this successfully was in a 38 year old car that I put a late model system in and had to have it. These piggyback items often use the throttle position sensor, air temperature sensor, mass air flow sensor and/or many other sensors or combination of sensors to make the computer do things for engine management it normally would not do. I have driven cars with these things and have known people who put them in and I can honestly say the only real difference felt was between the ears. The only time something like this should be used is when racing as the little benefit gained in power will be offset with problems in the future. Carefully read any directions that came with the chip thing and even call the supplier to verify it is being hooked up right - I do not want to discourage experimentation and good old fashioned hot rod fun - just be aware and don't do anything permanant that you may regret - good luck
