I have about 7K on my 2007 automatic (bought it with 3.5K). The best mileage I got was 25.63mpg (US gallon). The worst tank did 17.47mpg. The average over 18 tanks that I recorded has been 20.3mpg.
I thought I was going to do a lot better when I bought it. Perhaps the streets of San Francisco are killing me.

Get use to it. I have been saying for months that for the size and power of the engine and the overall weight of the car, the mileage could be much better. My charger's 5.7 Hemi (350HP) and 4100lb curb weight, get low 20s on the highway. This car is very reasonably priced for everything you get, but good gas mileage is not one of them.

Post 2008 SX4 Crossover

I have a 2008 SX4 Crossover, Convenience Package, Auto transmission, and 2wd.

Last fill up this morning, my mileage was 27.8 MPG. That is mostly highway driving, with some around town driving. I have gotten as high as 29.2 on one tankful, almost all highway driving.

I have found with as high as the crossover is, if I draft behind someone on the highway, I can get great mileage.

BTW, mileage on the car when I got home today from work is 1280 miles. Not even first oil change yet.

I was looking in to one but the MPG people are getting is a complete turn off

why is it so bad i drive a box on wheels and get better MPG than some of these people i get a consistant 27mpg all around

if i get one I'd be losing a convertible and my 4x4 that has so much more potential than an SX4's

I have a 2008 SX4 Crossover AWD manual. I've been getting 26/27 mpg so far (though I've only had it a week and a half). About half highway, half in town driving.

Default No gripes here

I average about 26-27 mpg between fill-ups with a manual; but that's during my commute (stop & go, followed by highway, followed by more stop & go). I've noticed the mileage getting better after the initial break-in period, especially on the highway (cruising at 60 or 70 seems to get the most mileage).

Also, the engine is very finicky about the brand of gas you use - I've gotten the highest mpg from Shell and Speedway. I'd recommend using gasbuddy.com to figure out which fuel works best in your area. They have a tool that allows you to enter mileage and fuel info so you can see the mpg your getting between fill-ups.

I've driven almost 16,000 miles on my 08 sx4 crossover, and I drive about 90 miles/day 5-6 days a week, 75% highway. Before some little upgrades, I was getting 27 to 31 mpg. After the RRM cold air intake and billet aluminum pulley, I've been getting 32.7 to 33.5 mpg with A/C and AWD.

I like these upgrades, my car sounds better, and has more torque. I've been driving a little harder since upgrades, so I know I can get better mpg's!
