Oh Man, sorry...

I should have said what I have. Mine is indeed a 2009 model. It's the Sx4 Sport.

I read a little closer on Crutchfield's website and noticed that cable doesn't support the iPhone3G which bites! I've got an iPod classic 160GB which I primarily use for carrying around the bulk of my music, but I've also got a iPhone3G 16GB which I occasionally use to play music. And to add to that, I'm looking at upgrading to the iPhone3Gs 32GB soon, so I can possibly do away with carrying two devices...

That being said, I'm hoping to find an interface/connector that will support the iPhone3G and 3Gs and I'm pretty sure when I use my phone I won't want to put it in the glove box, so it's back to square one on my search.

Sorry for not sharing the full details in the beginning.

Thanks,

Israel

I'm wanting to know if anyone in Australia has fitted the ipod adapter themselves and where you got it from.

I read that the CCAIpod adapter from Crutchfield or Amazon should work, but none of them will ship to Australia.

ryda dot com dot au have the part listed but when I called them they said it wouldn't work and would charge a 20% restocking fee if it was returned.

My deck is a Clarion CLCR19 and it does have the CENet connector on the back of it.
(SX4 AWD - July 2009).

Thanks.

hey mate, i live in sydney and have a 07 sx4 hatch since new, i bought my cnet ipod adapter from Cronulla Car Sound (), although my unit is the CLCR06. it cost about 350 off the top of my head...
the one on RYDA looks the part but a whole lot smaller than my unit (but its 2 years old now) im 99.999999999% sure that will do the job... and the price is very reasonable

very easy to install yourself... plug into the stereo, plug into the ipod... 2 cables... then i ran the cable from the stereo under the left side of the centre console to under the drivers seat (behind my sub) and then from unit to my ipod up the drivers side under the centre console through the kick panel on the left of the foot bay(just push it under the centre console between the carpet) (make sense?)

best bet is to check with your local suzuki dealer if your not sure, they provide the unit but will then want to install it of course...

let me know how you go...

@SchumieFan:

Thanks for the info.
I've taken the risk and ordered the adapter.
It should arrive this week so I'll let you know if it all works.

Default IPod Kit

I went round and round on this issue also. Finally bought Tim Mcabe's connection for $35.00 and this was an unbeatable bargain. We used the alternate hook up, simply removing the triangular center console panel by the accelerator pedal, reaching up and plugging the cable into the back of the radio. My son then passed it to me and we ran it into the glove box. This took about 10 minutes,it works great and with any MP-3 player. Thanks Tim!

Further to my last post
re: puchase of CCA-Ipod adapter from ryda dot com
I'm happy to report that it works, and has put my old 8Gb ipod mini to good use.
All the functions work as described previously and it charges my ipod as well.

Just wanted to give you all some info on my install experience.

I got the CCA ipod cable from crutchfield today and installed it in my SX4.
First off, it's much easier to install the cable from the driver's side than the passenger's side. I could SEE it much better from the passenger's side, in fact, I couldn't see it at all from the driver's side, but it was much more accessible to my hand.

I have an iPhone 3GS that I just updated to 3.1.2 firmware.

The cable allows me to play music, however it can ONLY be controlled via the stereo itself (via the 5,6,▲,▼ buttons). When you tap the ipod icon on the iphone it just says 'accessory connected' and you have no control over playback with the actual iPhone itself.
Also, on connection, it says charging is NOT supported with the phone. So, the phone doesn't charge.

So after $50 and an hour or so of install and playing with it, I might actually prefer an aux cable that plugs into my 1/8" jack. I can visually control what's playing better, AND I could plug the phone into my accessory jack charger.

Tim, want to trade?

Squipple,

There is a USB to firewire adaptor for the iPod that will allow the CCA-iPod to charge it.
The CCA uses a 12v firewire to charge and the new iPods use a 5v USB. I've seen the adaptor for sale at the apple store
Scosche Passport FireWire-to-USB iPod adapter gets reviewed

It seems pretty expensive for what is basically a 5v adaptor, but it does allow your iPod to charge.

Cheers,

Tim

for the sake of $50, this is the latest verion of the ipod adapter, and it will work on your SX4 and let the steering wheel audio controls control your ipod...

Clarion CCA-iPod iPod® Interface Cable Control your iPod from select Clarion receivers at Crutchfield.com

if there is enough demand i will make a DIY, it seems people are unsure as how to install it... its far easier and tidier to take the unit out than to locate a small child to thread the cable.
