Thanks
George
I work with Tim and I know about his adapter, and we have discussed it, but IMO the advantages on the iPod kit are:
  • charges iPod
  • iPod stays hidden away
  • iPod controlled with steering wheel audio buttons

For me, it's safer (driving and potential theft) and more convenient. I put up with the random thing because it's a minor irritation.

PS: Tim's a great guy and lends me ibuprofen when I've run out.

Default trim

ive found after breaking many of the chrome trim pieces the best way to go about getting them out, take off all the bottom clips first, the top metal clip is the biggest pain and if you pull straight out it will bend and warp the plastic under the crome overlay. but try to take and roll the trim to the outboard side with a flat object so example. if its the right piece pry from the radio area and twist the trim to right.

Default iPod Problems

I had a problem where the iPod would start over at the begining of the playlist each morning.
Changing out the iPod with a different iPod solved that problem. Evidently the iPod battery was dying overnight. The repeat/random problem everytime you turn off the ignition is just a glitch with the Clarion system and there is nothing you can do about it.

Default Ipod problems

I have the factory Ipod adapter kit. It works well though there seems to be no way to see the whole titles and names. I discovered button 5 gives you access to playlists-artists-songs, the up and down arrows scroll(why didn't they use the round knob on the right?) and button 6 selects. I did have my old classic Ipod's battery die on me and I'm wondering if one has to manually turn off the Ipod at night.
On another note, having the dealer install both the xm and the ipod adapter cost a bucketload of money(I think about $600+ for hardware and installation), that cable sounds like a better alternative.

Default ipod interface

The iPod will turn itself off after a few minutes after you shut off the car. The interface system should restart the iPod when you turn on the ignition.

Thank you. I was not sure if it was going to work with the ipod nano 3rd generation because some websites said that is not compatible, but I guess it is just because of the video option.

Default cca iPod interface

Yea, we had an iPod Mini in her GV for the last year but went to an 8GB 3rd Gen Nano a couple months ago. She uses it every day on her 45 min drive to work and back. No problems at all.
